The Tuul Crib 7,336 #1 Posted November 29, 2019 Well it's that time of year again and Black Friday is here. Just imagine if wheel horse dealerships were still in operation. Would they have deals on Black Friday? Actually the term black Friday goes back to 1966 and was coined in Philadelphia.
Sparky-(Admin) 21,304 #2 Posted November 29, 2019 A Wheel Horse dealership offering some killer Black Friday deals is about the only way you MIGHT see me out on Black Friday shopping. I never go out and participate in any of this retailer-driven madness. 3
The Tuul Crib 7,336 #3 Posted November 29, 2019 I also refuse to follow this retail madness. Sure you can prolley get good deals but to see crowds trample over each other to get to that good price? No thanx! 2
82Caddy 851 #4 Posted November 29, 2019 Went to Menards this morning. Was in and out in 15 minutes for my 98$ scaffolding. Worst part was the parking lot of all things. People drive and park like idiots.

I live about an hour outside of Philly. There's lots of good stuff going on in the area, Black Friday is not one of them.
Stormin 9,981 #6 Posted November 29, 2019 (edited) Unfortunately Black Friday is another American import we could do without over here. No offence meant BTW. I was reading an article a couple of days ago, that stated only about 5% of deals are actually a bargain. Prices are put up a couple of weeks before, then reduced as a bargain. Eldest daughter works in retail and says that is common practice. Not just for Black Friday either. Edited November 29, 2019 by Stormin

There’s no doubt that happens Norm. Every year I dislike this holiday more and more as it becomes a retail holiday, focused on dragging every last dollar out of the consumers pocket. It’s actually disgusting to watch news clips on TV about holiday shoppers.
The Tuul Crib 7,336 #8 Posted November 29, 2019 One thing I hope is that they don't declare Black Friday a legal holiday of which it is not. The same as the day after the Super Bowl LOL !

SylvanLakeWH 25,492 #10 Posted November 29, 2019 I buy good, quality stuff when, and only when, I need it...in the quantity I need... Sometimes its on a Friday, sometimes another ending with "day"... I save a lot of money by NOT buying anything because its "on sale"... I also don't watch TV, so I couldn't tell you what sales there are...this also tends to save money... 2
Tractorhead 9,064 #11 Posted November 29, 2019 What you suggested is also here practice. If i need any thing, i mostly wait until the „super offers“ are gone, than the prices drops back down in reasonable values. I still watching same issue as you told Norm. Actual example i seen was a Couch. Two Weeks before they offered it in a Flyer for 499€ and whilst „Black Friday super Sale“ you got it for „just 599€„ offered In capital letters, with a crossed price above of 699€ to suggest it is now that cheap... First time i realize this, was a coincidence because i need paper to tape arround a thing i wanna spray. therefore i used this first Flyer, i spare for such issues. While it was not enough to protect, i quick grab another actual Flyer out of Briefcase. So i had a direct compare with that Couch, and i must laugh about that fool. But a lot of people come in a hurry, if things suggested as very cheap.
953 nut 55,080 #12 Posted November 30, 2019 I spent "Black Friday" finishing up this year's leaf pick-up, got about six hours of quality seat time! 1
rjg854 11,350 #13 Posted November 30, 2019 I followed your lead Richard, and worked my usual 8 hours. My Friday special was to go for a hot lunch with the guys. Was a tad on the cold side, today.
