It‘s time to hunt martens...

Yes, i hate them, at least from today on.

As everyday i try to start in the early morning my Car, what was followed by a light „ buff“ noise,

followed by smells like burned electric than i just hear the Starter cranking, but no more happened.

I know immediately, that‘s no good sign at all.

I jumped out of the car and opened immediately the Hood and a first look doesn’t show something spectacular,

just few chewed Pipes....   ok, martens was here, i understand that.

And a light smell of burned Electric.

i try to see something but on first view, everything looks so far good.

Because nothing more is visible, i give it another try,

maybe Heater Fan resistors is blown...

Hey it‘s an 25 year old car, that can be happen, nothing spectacular and a known fail after over 20 years on that Cars.

Fan also doesn‘t move, that seems to be evidence enough.

while also no dashboard occurs ( no lights no meters at all) i gram my Laptop.

A try to get interconnection to one of the Control Devices with my Vehicle laptop fail‘s completely

Vehicle Data bus was corrupted or maybe complete out of order and prevents any interconnect. - oh oh, no good

memory of the electric smell comes up and i guess i can stop searching for an error, that damage will be bigger.

no dashboard comes up, no dashlights, just cranking while key was turned.

checked all fuses, 1 60Amps are blown and few others, but mostly all Fuses are Engine dependent.

after changing all Fuses another try, nothing, same as before, just crank no dash, no engine relevant lights.

all Fuses stay, just the Fan works again, so i decide this must be a bigger problem.

A closer inspection shows, the marten has biten nearly all pipes and also raged a lot in the cable harness close to the Fusebox,

where the Engine management was located.

After i followed the harness with my fingers, i get on one spot a light copper vacination.

The cable harness was also biten at a very bad visible place between Fusebox and Engine control device.

While i switched the key to run position, i inspect the harness and see lightly damp occurs from the Engine Control Device.

That thing was real hot!

Enough to burn my Fingertip.

I tried to take a pict from the Wire Harness, but it was once to unsharp to see anything or it was to small to

trigger the button for a pict to display what‘s happen,

i just can finger along the wire harness or with a spotmirror.

I’m Trying to take a pict via Spotmirror but that was also not useful possible,

but i see enough, to know, that was the final end for this Car.

Especial while Engine Control Device works like a heater.

A Wireharness and Engine Control Device even used, cost more than a other cheap Car.

Ok, that‘s definitiveley the worst case what can happen early in the Morning,

it makes no sense to change that things, who knows what devices are burned down..

Engine Control Device, ignition module, sensors - To much things to change for an unknown issue,

as long as Vehicle readout was impossible.

To fix it can be a barrel without bottom.

Sadly That‘s it - No Oil damage, or engine fail  -  a marten has killed my Car.

Now they are on my „most Wanted“ hunting list.

have to find quickly a „other“ Car, best i found the same again.

Have a lot of stuff, that i had once in spare or parts can be changed because they fit.

Does anybody know‘s, are martens grilled delicious?

I think i go now hunting.....

I would shoot all the martens you find and bury them in one spot to make fertilizer . Sorry to hear about your troubles.

Sorry to hear about the damage to your car. :( We have some martens in our area but it is very rare event to see one. In fact in my life time I have only ever seen one in the wild and one more that a friend had mounted in his house. Hearing how destructive they can be I'm glad that they are not abundant here.

Looks like a nice seat cover for a :wh:... how many would you need to cover one?

I’m sorry to hear of your troubles Stefan, they look related to the badger?

No, they related to weasels,

same Family.

I Found yesterday a K30 Chevy Pickup 6Cyl. Gasoline Engine short Bed shift Gear and called the Guy to reserve it,

the price shall be about 3000, and it looks interesting on the Pics, nice Patina

I come in a hurry and we started immediately, but 90 Km depends it‘s time and if we arrived 1/2 hour later,

he told me it was already sold about 5 min. Ago.🤪

I looked at a local marketplatform via ipad, because i need a Car to go to Work  however,

and one of the first offers was an exact similar car at 18:00 local time - just in different Color in complete opposite direction.

Same Car i had, with just 183.000 Km on Tacho except the „Luxory“ of Central Locking.👍

So Kati fired „the Big“ and we „fly in a hurry“ for a quick checkup.😎

that was my quickest checkup i did at any Car purchase, because the seller want’s to close his shop,

I buy it as a extremly cheap „Winter Car“ with a rest of 3 months TÜV, than we see what happens with it,

if it‘s worth to be repaired to get another 2 Years or not.

If so, i will upgrade with Parts of the Old White one, i had allready prepared for TÜV, if not i keep my Parts for the next.

Tomorrow i go to registration Office and get Licence Plates and in the later evening

i grab the Car, and bring it home ( hopefully)

I hope no troubles will occur, and it runs as expected, but I payed just a Few bucks, so i‘m ok with the situation.

That was my cheapest buy in my complete Car history....😎

i dealed it for just 370 bucks, but i just need a Car immediately to bridge the Winter season and the Seller wants to close his Shop.

Engine fired right up and it runs smooth like mine ( no rattle noise, what is normal known at most of that small Engines)

Oil is dark but doesn’t look too bad, ( finger Test passed) Coolant was Clean and it runs smooth even at a 15 minit run.

I have allready a brandnew Waterpump in spare if needed, buyed it for the White, because it dribbs a bit.

The Gearbox switched smooth, and the Clutch seems good so far, the only found issue in a 30 min, checkup

was a non working Handbrake, i can Deal with.

guess just not correctly adjusted, or Bricks close to finish, also a known issue.

No big check about Rust, because i buyed it as Wintercar for 3 Months.

Let‘s see if i did right or not..😎

Pine Martins are a bit scarce round here. But some in the Scottish forests. Weasels and stoats about but  you don't often see them.

Good luck with the replacement car, Stefan.

Is there room to park a K30 where you roam?  I agree that would be awesome in Bavaria, but sometimes challenging to find a parking spot!

Ok, it is the same as „The White“, just in Silver and a bit better in shape at the body than the previous as far as i can see for now. 😎

After pickup today, i did firstly clamp laptop onto and checked

curious what‘s state it has.

Engine control module - no errors

Airbag control modules - no errors

Body control module - 2 errors

Readout errorcodes - just 2

1. central lock system - second key not Programmed

2. central lock system - primary Key unreadable code.

change of the battery in the first key transponder and reprogramming of the second key solved that for now.

- no more errors

switch to live diagnosis and did a testdrive.

found another 4 issues,

Servo pump squeezes a bit - ok, maybe check oil level, if it has a problem with the pump, i had one in spare so that can be solved.

light knock whilst playing on the steering wheel - maybe trackrods or  tie rod ends, also here unused new parts in spare.

brakes work but light wobble on the pedal - known issue on that car at older brakediscs, they will be changed next time, together with the bricks.

A undefined „whistle“ at full throttle - horrible sound, but just if i hit pedal to the metal... 😱 hoped no troubles with Engine,

haaaaahaha, PO installed an fake turbo pipe in the exhaust.

Removed that thing - issue solved.🤪

all in all not bad for such a cheap thing.

i know, there must be something be done at such cheap car to it, but it looks better in shape as i thought.

After removing the fake turbo, the engine run‘s smooth and similar to mine, but with bit less punch.

may i have to check and „ upgrade“ the injection map to my personal setup.

I‘ll think this can be a begin for a longer friendship.
