My two 40 inch Mid-Grader Blades

I have two early Mid-Grader Blades that I can use on all my tractors (other than the RJ’s).  
 

the one with the tab in front was modified by a previous owner so it could be a Mid-Grader blade and a rear pull behind blade by placing the tab in the rear slot hitch.   Works great and was the first type of mid-grader blade made by Wheel Horse.  You had to place a pin in one of three holes to angle the plate.

 

The other mid-grader blade is a later version ( about 1966 or 1967) and it has a handle on it to adjust the angle of the grader blade.  You can adjust it while sitting on the seat of the tractor.

We have one of the later ones here.

I bought it thinking that I might be able to use it on Cinnamon horse or Patriot to grade the driveway and Forest paths.

 

So what do I do? I put it on Trina's 867 and let her try it out.

Do you think I've used that thing since???

Nope.

She's like a little five-year-old. Driving around in figure eights and swirls and circles and straight lines and crooked lines and ups and downs and lefts and rights...

Until she likes the way the driveway looks.

Maybe someday in the far distant future if I'm a very very good boy I'll be able to use my own grader blade.

That's the same way I do it except with a landscape rake.

You could buy another one, but she might not let you grade her drive way.

I wonder how it works at processing a light snowfall on a long driveway?

 

I bet it makes beautiful windrows and is good at getting up tire-compacted snow

Could try that but it just wouldnt be the same.   

 

There is probably less torque acting on the tractor with the mid mount, trying to push it off line?  

 

and it would be neat to have the blade underneath my feet

I will do an experiment this year and try both of my grader blades on one tractor at the same time to see how it performs during a snowfall on the driveway,

 

I can put one in the center attachamatic and one in the rear slot hitch!   Might  helt with wet snow or ice.

There might be some chuckles with this but I'll risk it.  A few years back, with my son we were into building RC trucks that plowed snow and did other things.  The most effective snow plowing version was the mid-mount because it controlled the torque. It weighed only 12lbs so it was limited to what it could handle but it was very easy to drive.  Maybe things dont "scale up", but a mid mount with some down pressure and maybe a heavy rubber flap running on top of the blade for more capacity seems it would do great in snow...and be a ton of fun to operate too.  How cool would it be if the vendor above offered a new mid mount attachment?  He seems to make nice stuff and is capable. And there definitely seems to be a scarcity of used mid mounts out there!

My favorite trucks as well. I used to drive them to deliver food to Nathan's restaurants, public schools and diners in and around the 5 boroughs of NY.  A tough job that was!

snow plows are fairly common on Traxxas Summit

for anyone not familiar with a Traxxas Summit 

 

Summit is a 1/8 scale RC truck;  4wd with remote locking diffs 

 

stock - with standard OEM motor and batteries they will push a full size car 

 

and they get scary with a brushless motor and better batteries 

my kid's Summit pulling a reel mower
