Auto dipstick

I have a C-120 I am working on and it has a dipstick where the rubber seal is falling apart. Am I correct to assume that this system needs to be under pressure and that is the reason for the rubber seal on the dipstick?

 

I am worried that pieces of the seal are or have fallen down inside and may cause a blockage. Does anyone have a fix for this or know where to find a replacement?

After doing some more digging, I did find a current part # for this dipstick that seems to be the correct one. It is Toro part #101847-03. Looks like these are available, but they are a bit pricey at around $32.00-$37.00. Still cheaper than having the tranny screwed up by debris I suppose.

I assume the pipe size is 1/2” for the dipstick tube.  This Charger 12 trans has a threaded dipstick similar to an engine’s.  Maybe you could use that style as an easy replacement?  Here is a picture of “Frank’s” toolbox area...

:text-yeahthat: They have a lot of stuff for :wh:'s as well as a lot of other motorized equipment & toys. Shipping is $7.95 no matter how big or small the order, I usually try to load up when I order from here.

The transaxle is simply a reservoir for the trans fluid...and isn't pressurized. The dipstick has a rubber grommet to exclude debris as the internals of the Sundstrand pump are HIGHLY sensitive to any contaminant.  I have a C-160..same trans... and a few Dipsticks....will have a look-C if I have one for you.  If so, $20 bux ...shipped.

I did go ahead and order a new one.

 

So my plan is to try ad suck the oil out using an extractor rig I made up  with a shop vac. It is based on this design except I'm using a larger hose to try and get the bigger chunks if there are any. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uk46vCOGTFI&list=FLUz5qaVJ0DlC0wJBAbYQmaw&index=14&t=0s 

 

I will also open the drain plug on the bottom. I want to do all of this before I ever start if for the first time since I think that the pieces may have just come off and are hopefully sitting right below the dipstick tube. 

 

Not sure if I should try and flush it with anything too. Any other suggestions @daveoman1966 ?
