ebinmaine 67,208 #1 Posted November 17, 2019 (edited) My honey/Trina/BBT and her mom have been building us a roughly 6 x 8 foot wood shed. The only help I've given was standing up the roof assembly and securing it. ALL spare parts from past projects except the siding they started putting on today. Note the spaces between the boards. They're about 2" gapped for air flow. The bottom of each board has a nail driven in part way to hold them out 1/2" or so. The water will run from the bottom of each board to the face of the next. Sparky-(Admin) 21,300 #2 Posted November 17, 2019 Very nice. How many cord total will it hold when full? 2-1/2 to 3? So, can you school an old guy what BBT stands for

Black Belt Trina. 2 1
CCW 1,291 #4 Posted November 17, 2019 Wish I could burn wood like I used to. Dust allergies from wood burning cause too many problems.

Lee1977 6,633 #8 Posted November 18, 2019 You better get a roof on that shed before it fill up with snow.

I have a shovel if it comes down to that but the roof goes on last I want all the support on the sides I can get while I'm putting the roof on. I'm not a little dude.

I'm not a little dude. Be careful, Some temporary bracing in the center roof might be a good ideal. I can't tell from the picture what you used for the roof structure. I would also tie the front and back together with a 2x6 as there isn't anything there to keep it from folding in.
ebinmaine 67,208 #11 Posted November 18, 2019 @Lee1977 There are diagonals on the interior of the three closed walls. The roof structure itself is one full solid single steel set up. I'm thinking while I am installing the pieces of metal roofing up there I will probably run some braces to the ground. To be honest, I don't think I need them but better safe than sorry. Pullstart 62,757 #13 Posted November 19, 2019 Hey EB... that back wall diagonal might be better suited the other way... if the roof wanted to come down, it could twist and plop with those diagonals the way they are. Not that I question the structural integrity... but all that effort to support might just as well be the best it can be, right?

In fact I'd thought about putting another one going opposite to it. The open front will also be braced more than it currently is.

Not that I question the structural integrity... but all that effort to support might just as well be the best it can be, right? Yesterday Trina and her mom spent some time working on the shed again. You can see where they reversed the direction of the diagonal brace on the back wall. They also worked on putting the clapboards on the walls some more and installed vertical braces on the inside for the wood piles to rest against. Those braces are pieces of harvested forest wood. Saplings. Today we installed the gable pieces and put some Typar type material over the top just to make it waterproof until we get time to install the metal roofing. 2

I'm also happy to report that I was just out there throwing a few extra Staples on the edges of the roof and the rain is running right off the outsides of the bottoms of the boards just like it should so the system is working well. 1
Sparky-(Admin) 21,300 #18 Posted November 24, 2019 So is the floor just pallets? If yes, how long will they last?

The rest of the building is also scrap except the clapboards. When it falls over it'll give Trina something to do. 1
ebinmaine 67,208 #20 Posted November 29, 2019 We finished up putting the metal roof on and then filled it right up. Somewhere around 2 cord in there.
