Schnacke

I bought this off of Jake, 🤔 I think... lol what I am wanting to know if it’s fixable or just for parts..  I removed the cable and used it in one of my others that works.  The problem with this, the teeth will not engage out all the way there for rendering this thing useless for me.   It grinds the teeth, rarely would engage properly.  Advice please!

Hence the reason they were abandoned fairly quickly by Wheel Horse.

Sorry I don't know much about them to help but taking it apart and inspecting things is where I would start. I thing Joe Papke rebuilds those but not sure. Hopefully somone will along shortly that has answers

If you can fix it up I have a NOS replacement Shankle steel cable. Let me know if you  need it.

I have one with these big oval openings that I bought from Jake this past year that works just fine but he included a specific/unique nut with mine. I don't believe this style Schnacke recoil was actually ever used on Wheel Horse tractors originally with the large oval openings. I know the teeth are different than the Schnacke's used on the WH tractors and the nuts are different than the nuts used on the original Schnacke recoils on my other WH tractors.

I just found Jake's original ad for his recoils which includes a picture of the correct nut for this style Schnacke. (See link below) Is your nut this style with the teeth? I just ask because the style WH originally used didn't have the teeth on the nut which could be your issue if you don't have the correct style nut.

Yes he does have some parts and would probably rebuild one if you ask him.

Here a little info on them if it helps. Might be kinda hard to read...sorry but someone may have it as pdf

I bought a couple myself one works great!  Please don’t think I was bad mouthing Jake!  That was not my intention..  just a bit of back ground..  Just wanted to know if it was something I did or if anyone had the same issue, how they fixed it.  ETC.  Yes I got the correct nut I got from Jake..  I not sure I explained the issue I am having.  The teeth gear in the unit isn’t always spinning out far enough to engage properly to the nutt on the crankshaft

Just saw this post. If you have another cable and handle send it to me and I'll get it fixed for you, shouldn't take any other parts to make it work. Pm me if you need my address.

The key to the gear teeth type Schnacke as opposed to the Hex nut grabbing three dog type is to get the right gap between the nut on the crank and the recoil teeth.  It is a very small gap but it is needed to mesh the gears correctly!

I have one of these style from Jake too. They work fine.   I also have an original with the  hex nut.

We have both styles and I prefer the ones without the teeth!  However the teeth are a great recoil as well and ours is working great after Jake fixed and explained how to line it up and install!  Everything is a learning experience and thats just it!  LOL....  We love horses and everyone here that helps us learn!
