What I would like to do .......

Recommended Posts

BPjunk

In the board meeting before the show the featured Wheel Horse tractor model for the next years Annual Wheel Horse Show is selected. This is done this way because when put before the membership every one wanted their Wheel Horse tractor to be the featured model and you can guess that made a mess. This year I am going to propose a new way of selecting the featured model, I think a fair way would be to have the members put the model they want as a featured tractor model into a drawing and have a member pick the next years featured model.

I have other ideas on this agenda but I would like to see what you folks think of this idea first.

Thank You

Seems about as fair as it could get.

I assume that once a model of tractor has been selected it will be removed from the drawing box so there is no chance it would be selected for a few years?

What about doing a vote on the WHCC website? (much like the polls we have here on this forum)

As a matter of fact, look at the bottom of the page here at RedSquare where it says "Get your forum today!"

Adding a forum to the WHCC website would allow a place to post pictures, ask questions, and share information pertaining to the show. (and the newsletters could be posted there for those who never receive them in the mail :omg: )

I've always believed a club should be for the benefit of ALL its members - especially one in which you have to pay dues to belong. Perhaps the members of the WHCC would also appreciate a place where they can congregate and socialize more than two days out of 365.

Adding a forum to the website would mean the members would have to log in, in order to vote. Many mambers may not have computers nor is the WHCC site ready for logins and pass words and constant monitoring like a forum needs. That being said, Bill I think your Idea is simple & fair and is an improvement to the way it is being done now! :omg: Im in favor and you have my vote.

I like TT's idea that way not only the board members could vote but also the club members would have a say. If not that way why not put all models in the drawing :omg:

Adding a forum linked to the WHCC site sounds like a good idea even without the vote. Kind of late now but it could be a central place for information on the show and things to do with it like camping and hotels. Limiting topics to those subjects and directing tractor questions to other forums or Yahoo groups.

For the feature tractor vote it might be best to somehow hold that at the show. People who are attending the show might be the best group to choose what they want as the feature. Maybe narrow it down to a list of 5 or 6 tractors then have a vote. :omg:

Bill-I think your idea is very fare! You know you don't want to PISS OFF the natives. They can be very aggressive especially when things don't go there way!(like poaching, rustling and not having there tractor on the docket)

Bill,

First of all thank you!!!! I don't think any of us could ever imagine how much time and effort it takes to put on a show of this magnitude.

I like the idea of having a drawing at the end of the show. It would be a great way to hold some suspense right up until the end of the show. I am sure many pull out not wanting to leave after a great fun filled weekend. Doing it this way would be a fun way to top off the weekend and have everyone excited about their next project that will be displayed in a year.

Only problem might be is that you will have to contact the Pennsylvania State Police and let them know there will be vehicles with trailers racing across their state to find the feauture horse for the following year. :omg:

Good luck on the decision!

Bill

Thanks for doing a great job with the club.

I think haveing a drawing at the show is about the fairest way to do it.

As most of the people who go to the show are repeats and they will be the ones bringing the featured tractors anyways. The only hard part would be which ones to include in the drawing.

Do you have only pre73 or go to pre84 or include all with the Wheel Horse branding? This would be the toughy question in my opinion.

As I have from tracotrs from 61 to 03 you can guess my thoughts.

Folks thanks for the input. A drawing does seem to be a fair and fun way to pick the feature tractor model for the next show.

I mentioned other ideas in my starting post and what I was thinking off was the member who tractor model was picked we could use pictures of that tractor for items like the dash plaque, buttons and so forth for that perticular show .... in other words the tractor on the dash plaque would be made from a picture of your Wheel Horse! :omg: The only reserves that might come up about this would be putting pictures of a modified Wheel Horse on the show items. Also as Steve mentioned having a repete model .... but there was a lot of different Wheel Horse models made!

Here is a list of the previous Wheel Horse models that were feaured.

2000 - 1955 RJ-35

2001 - 1961 701

2002 - 1962 Lawn Ranger

2003 - 1963 953

2004 - 1974 C-100

2005 - 1965 875

2006 - 1946 Pond & 2006 315-8

2007 - 1967 1267

2008 - '500' SPECIAL

2009 - GT-14

As you can see there was a rythem to picking the featured models with a exception of the year 2004 when we put the nomination out before the members and even then a 30th anniversay reasoning was used to pick the feature.

Bill, as someone who has never been to the show... but will make it there someday... I would just like to throw out the opinion that perhaps the first tractor in your list... the 1955 RJ-35 be left in the mix and put back in the drawing within a couple years. The first show was very small in comparison to what it is now, and look at the turnout you had with the 46 Pond feature. Now that there are so many more collectors in the "sport" the turnout you would get with the RJ-35 would likely be 10 times what it was the first time. Just an opinion. twocents.gif

I agree the 55 RJ-35 Is the machine that put them on the map and made it all happen! The RJ-58 is another machine that took them the next leaps & bounds in the companies history! Those tractors should be repeated every so often. :omg:

The repeats of the 55 RJ35 and RJ 58 and Seniors does make sense! And is a good Idea, But why not do an early theme. Say The early years or the "DefiningYears" (the first ten years) 1948-1958 which would include tractors and walk behinds. You got to admit the first ten years was pretty significant for the company? Very first lever steer to the very first riding lawn tractor to first 3 speed transaxle transmission in the industry. Your not limiting to one specific model but broading the scope to include a very important time!

Just a thought! :omg:

I agree Erik! :omg: But how about possiby a Vintage tractor pre 60 tractor each year and a late model tractor  for example since last year was 2008 they selected a 1968 500 special. Say for next year in 2010 they have like 1960 550 suburban and a 1970 Electro 12? Maybe the following year in 2011 have a

1951 Senior and a 1981 B-115? Since many of us tend to group ourselfs in years of collection having a couple different tractors old and new would give more people a chance to see their tractors selected and draw from both groups. Hey Bill having two show tractors for each year might bring in more tractors also! You might even go so far as to name a Year and any of the tractors that were made in that year would be that years Show Tractor(s). That way people are seeing more of what has been made. Lets get seriouse here boys I'm 51 years old and it will be the next century before I am ever gonna see even a portion of what Wheel Horse produced. A guy could go to the show the rest of his life and never see his tractor chosen! I personally like the year thing the more I think about it for that reason.

From 1956 to 1984 is 28 years who is gonna remember in 2037 that the GT-14 was this years tractor. I dunno just throwing some thoughts around. :(

Those are nice ideas guys... I'd like to throw a tweak on it... part of the event is having a "show tractor", one that can lead the parade and be put on the t-shirts and stuff.

I would suggest that there still be a "show tractor", and then a featured tractor from one or more of the eras of ownership. It would involve a few more drawings, but could be done pretty easy. Have five hats, one with the 46-57 (Pond), another with 58-73 (WHPI), another with 74-81 (AMC), another with 82-86 (Munn) and lastly 87-06 (Toro). Yes, I realize ownerships were mixed during the changeover years... but you have to cut it off somehow.

Then take the winners of those (perhaps leave out the early category every other year or so, so it doesn't always win) and then draw from the winner from those for the show tractor. That way, you can feature tractors of many eras, and still have a "show tractor" that is special to the show. Again... just a thought. :omg:

That's pretty good Idea Jason, somehow whatever is decided there defiantly needs to be more than just one Tractor integrated in the mix. I think if there was you would get more tractors there and get involvement among the WHCC members and collectors. :omg:

How bout this,

Since this year is 2009 ( I know we already picked a featured tractor) we find a tractor that the year ended in 9 such as:

1959 RJ-59

1969 Electro 12

and so on.

Then we could pick the best selling tractor of that year and the favorite tractor of that year.

So for 2010 we could have:

Suburban 400, 550

some 1970 model

or some 1980 model

I just think it the year of the show should somehow correspond with the year. Like 2007 was the 867,1067,1267 because it was the first year of the 8 speed.

:omg: uhhh... Charlie that has been done before, For example Last year in 2008 there was the 1968 500 special. I agree tho! I just think they should pick a year like this year 2009 being 59, 69, 79, 89 and in that year have several models cause that way we can see more of um! :( Im enviouse of you! Its great you have started at such a young age! you have many many years to enjoy and collect and see all these fine tractors! Ive been watchin yer work and yer doing a swell job! Just dont get no over spray on yer dads stuff!
