Pullstart 62,905 #1 Posted November 4, 2019 Rylee’s K241 10 horse Kohler in Filly has about 3/4” or so of in and out slop in the governor shaft. It this a tell tale sign the governor has exploded inside? Luckily it runs fine for the time being, but if we need to open it up for some replacement governor work, well then Rylee will get a crash course on engine work! The Tuul Crib 7,336 #2 Posted November 4, 2019 Sounds to me like somethings not really right inside if it moves that much. Problem is they're so hard to get to because the camshaft is in the way. You have to drive that long pan out to get camshaft out to even get to the governor gear . I just got done doing one in one of these motors here. WHX?? 48,828 #5 Posted November 4, 2019 (edited) I have also saw where there is a real small clip ring on the shaft to limit movement so that is maybe what Tom is talking about. The groove is real small and the clip is just a wire and pretty dainty....easy to dislodge. Don't remember if its in front or back of the nut. You do want the arm to ride in the center of the fly gear tho. That's what the spacer does. Maybe older K's had the dainty clip??? You have to loosen the pinch bolt and slide the throttle arm off to get at the spacer/clip. Then will have to reset it but no big deal procedure is in the manual. I know this is an old post but I have a similar problem - assembled the motor and put the bushing/sleeve on the wrong side of the flag 🤦🏼♂️. how did this work out? I’m thinking of adding another sleeve to the front end, from the outside after removing the brass nut. I found one on McMaster-Carr that’s 3/4” long and I’m thinking that’s “close enough”. It doesn’t look like the parts diagram has any interference. I’d say you are on the right track. @WHX?? and @Shynon have more experience inside these than I do. WHX?? 48,828 #16 Posted August 9 I would think if the bushing/spacer is on the back side of the shaft the flag would not rest on the center of the flyweights or the shaft would not set in the boss in the block.
