A few pics from The Great North Maine Woods

I'm going way up to northern Maine the week of thanks giving to hunt the elusive white tailed deer. I'm looking forward to it even though I can't do it the way I would like to, or once could. Nice photos Eric, my friends place is on assitasis lake off the grid. Sure that is not even close to the right spelling. In Burlington Maine, about seven hours from my house.

Thanks Eric and Trina for taking us on that little journey at least virtually.  It is hard to imagine how amazing that it was to experience that first hand.  Pictures are wonderful but never compare to being there in person...

We've been on that one a few times in the past. This weekend we stayed in camp and relaxed.

We arrived Friday evening and set-up in a wicked windstorm.

Took a bit of extra time and effort to get hunkered down.

Gathered up a bit of firewood to supplement what we brought in.

Saturday we spent more time gathering wood from deadfall, "brush and slash" . (Logging area).

Gathered enough wood to keep the fire going near 2 days straight.

Then just....... Existed...

We've a selection of 5 tents to choose from.

Normally we use a 10 x 16 cabin tent.

This time we brought a 9 x 7 so as to keep warmer.

Saturday night we covered the tent with a tarp and that was even better.

We've been considering a pop-up trailer or even a very small hard sided one. Haven't gotten there yet...

We’ve got an older Colman pop up. It’s awesome. No bathroom or water which makes it great for dry camping. Battery lasts a week for the led lights. Comfy night sleep off the ground and you stay dry in the worst of rainstorms. Easy to tow and store.
We tent camp on overnights in good weather still though.
Keep an eye out. They can be found fairly cheap.

Thanks for the pics guy's, Patti and I stayed at Spencer Pond Camps in East Middlesex Canal Grant TWP just a bit Southwest of Blood Pond roughly 5 years ago, super nice country for sure. If you like to be off grid Spencer Pond Camps is really comfortable with that deep woods feel, just hang a left when you get to Kokadjo and not to far from there. Word of caution and I am sure you know this, when we were on our way in on the dirt road I looked off in the distance above the tree line and saw a massive cloud of dust and immediately pulled carefully off the road and Patti asked what I was doing that for and within 5 minutes an 18 wheeler fully loaded log truck went by us at least 40 mph and when I looked at her I could see the whites of her eyes. Log trucks rule the North Maine Woods !     @Darb1964   That pond you are referring to is Eskutassis Pond, some tough pronunciations and spelling on those remote wonders of the Great State of Maine.

JCM you nailed it, nice area, the lakes reagon, great fishing 🐟not a lot of deer but huge. They take many bucks over 200 pounds some pushing 300 field dressed. Hoping for some snow, not to much, that's why we are going late in the season this year.

@JCM

Back about three years ago we came down the Golden Road from the upper end near Katahdin.

All private land so there's no size or weight limits.

We saw a couple of extra wide trailers going down the road that were loaded 50 or 60 ft long instead of 45 or 48.

We figured one of them probably weighed in excess of 120000 pounds.

Quite an interesting pile of machines up there.
