help identifying a Tecumseh engine

Recommended Posts

I picked up  a free Tecumseh engine yesterday. I got it running pretty well. I cannot find a model tag on it anywhere. I think it was a snowblower engine. I cannot find anything to tell what Horse power it has. Do any of you Techy guys have an idea? It is a recoil with 120v electric start as well. Any help is appreciated.

110 volt starter probably is a snowblower engine.  Any air cleaner on it.  (Blower engines do not have them) Could be 5 to 10 hp

Id stamped into blower housing

Older Tecumseh engines had a metal tag riveted to the blower housing.  Newer ones have the numbers stamped in the top of the blower housing.  Newest engines have a plastic tag adhered to the housing.

Thanks guys. I found the number. It is an HM80. So, it is an 8 hp. I took off the carb. to clean it. Should be good to go after. Now, to find something that needs an engine.............
