PeacemakerJack 10,738 #1 Posted November 1, 2019 Guys, I am looking to purchase an enclosed trailer as both a storage solution for some of my tractors but also a primary mover for them to go to shows and plow days. I could “wing it” and buy what I think would work well but I want to base this on some real hard evidence. I have an open trailer that is super durable and capable of hauling 10,000# but the layout and dimensions only allow me to haul two tractors at a time...that isn’t a good use of space or function. I want to be able to haul 4 if not 6 total machines when needed. I don’t want a trailer so large that it requires a super powerful truck to tow it but I do want something adequate. I looked today at this 7x18 V-nose sled trailer.. I liked the fact that it doesn’t have inner fenders but I have also looked at 8.5’ wide trailers and those have a lot of room. I know that @WHX24 and @Shynon have very nice enclosed trailers for hauling GT’s and I hope they weigh in here. Please post pics of your enclosed trailers—inside and out. I’m also interested in storage solutions like cabinets, shelves etc. What type of anchor system do you use for your tractors and how does it seem to work? what are things that you may have done with a current or past trailer that seemed like a good idea at the time but didn’t work out so well in practice? Also, please let me know what you use to pull your trailer and if you feel that it works well.
stevasaurus 22,706 #3 Posted November 1, 2019 Josh...you may want to check out @buckrancher's horse trailer. Bought it new in northern Indiana a few years ago. He has a thread about it here on RS. Maybe he will chime in.
Achto 27,502 #4 Posted November 1, 2019 When you go looking, take a tape measure with you to measure the inside. Not all trailers are measured the same. 6 tractors will fit in a 7' x 16' space.
PeacemakerJack 10,738 #5 Posted November 1, 2019 Thanks @Achto! So if I’m reading correctly what you are saying, “beware of someone selling a v-nose that may be measuring from the tip of the nose to the rear door instead of from the rear door to the point where the angle starts...”. A 18’ trailer could become a 14’ pretty quickly So...I’ve begun trolling the archives cause my buddy Tom must be doing some night plowing or something and I came up with a thread he started on this topic when he bought his trailer just over 5 years ago... Some great info here
19richie66 17,500 #6 Posted November 1, 2019 Mine is a 7x14. Pulls great, the Chevy and the Ford both like it. I haven’t tried to see how many tractors I could get in it but I have put two side by side. I think I could get 4 regular sized in it comfortably. Gt14, and other big wheels, not sure. I lined it with E- track on the floor, one row 24” off the floor. Eventually it will get another row 48” off the floor on each side. Also put a shelf in the front that is removable. One day will have cabinets, removable beds, and hopefully A/C. 4
Shynon 7,459 #7 Posted November 1, 2019 (edited) Here it is a 2014 7x16 RC enclosed trailer bought new in Cheese land. It hauls six tractors with about 12 inches of space down the middle. E track on the floor, strap down 2 tires on each tractor except the front 2. Pulling it with a 2018 Silverado 5.3 with air bags and onboard compressor. Hauls it pretty well fully loaded, usually about 65 mph. Gonna wire it up this year for a generator to run portable AC and C pap machine. I have Velcro screens for both doors and usually sleep with both doors open all night. We sleep on cots, looking to put in a fold down bed. Plan to pull it out to the Big Show in 2020. Also used to store tractors and attatchments all year round. Edited November 2, 2019 by Shynon 4
squonk 41,018 #8 Posted November 2, 2019 I can put 10 horses in this but the scraping noise going down the road overwhelms the Bose sound system in the truck!
