Marc Gall 0 #1 Posted October 30, 2019 Looking for some advice/help/guidance: I have a 315-8. Model # 73450 with a Kohler 15HP Engine. We’re in the process of moving to Northern Michigan. The new home has a pretty steep and long driveway, so I’m in the market for a snow blower for my Wheel Horse. I found a snow blower Model # 79262 - Serial # 5900999. Here’s my questions/concern: 1 - Will this Snow Blower fit my 315-8? 2 - Harder question, will my 315 be able to handle a steep drive. The drive is around 30°. I am planning to purchase rubber chains and wheel weights. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
kasey54 305 #2 Posted October 30, 2019 I think traction will be the only question mark. Never worked a grade like that. Steering may be an issue too. Asphalt or gravel drive?
Marc Gall 0 #3 Posted October 30, 2019 Asphalt Driveway.
kasey54 305 #4 Posted October 30, 2019 I've read here, that front chains help with the steering.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,033 #5 Posted October 30, 2019 The 79262 fits lawn tractors with vertical engine crankshaft so the belt drive is different. These models should fit I think. More at the end. Front quick hitch introduced. Snowthrower rear frame has a 5/8" diameter round bar. 1973-74 model 6-6212 plus 6-9113 1974 model 6-6213 - (First model to include 8-0221 extensions without the front straight return - just a flat plate) 1975 model 6-6214 - (First model to include 8-0221 [103552 replaced by 93-1617 and 93-1617-01] side extensions with the front straight return. First model to have a cable spool on chute rotating crank) 1976 model 6-6215 - This one - 1976 model 66-42ST01 - and this one are likely identical. The model number format changed. 1977 model 76-42ST01 - This one 1978 model 86-42ST01 - and this one 1979 model 96-42ST01 - and this one plus 1980 may be all the same. They started using a different model number for each model year. 1980 model 06-42ST01 - (Last 42" model to use 4 grooved rollers for the chute) 1981-82 model 06-42ST02 - (First model to use plastic collar for the chute but was a retrofit for older models. Last model to use wheels) 1983 model 06-42ST03 - (First model to use skids) 1984-87 model 06-42ST04 - (Last model to use a 3/4" diameter driveshaft) 1987-89 model 06-42ST05 - (First model to use a 7/8" diameter driveshaft) 1990 model 06-42ST06 1991-93 model 06-42ST07 - (First model with tall chute retained by 3 individual grooved retainers) 1993-2001 model 79360 2002-2007 model 79362 The snowthrower listed for you tractor is model 79362 with this note - 79360 Snowthrower will fit; requires Adapter Kit 105-1503 which consists of a new driven pulley and a support for the chute crank. I do not know what is different about the pulley. Could be diameter and/or shaft size. Hopefully someone reading this has a model 79362 and will comment. I suspect the change to an electric pto clutch has something to do with it. Garry
lynnmor 7,302 #9 Posted October 31, 2019 If your driveway slopes to the side, be aware that rubber tire chains have no control to prevent sideways slip. Those rubber straps are a toboggan side to side. I have one spot that I learned to handle very carefully after doing a 180 and now work the high side first and take subsequent cuts with the snow bank preventing side slip.
