oliver2-44 9,879 #1 Posted October 30, 2019 (edited) I have a 1974 WH C-160 with the single OMCO hydraulic valve . I would like to add a second hydraulic valve that has the float position to my stack . In talking with people, it seems the early GT 14's and the C195's and possible some D's used two OMCO valves and one of them had the float position. Attached is a picture I got of the net that is reportedly from a C195. 1. Am I correct that the valve with the longer cap is the one with the float position. 2. If you have thevalve with float, do you need the right side plat shown in the picture that has the adjustment nut on it (I'm guessing that's an adjustable pressure relief valve) or can you use the regular side plate that doesn't have the adjusting nut 3. It's also been suggested the regular valve body (shorter cap) can be modified to have float with the correct parts. I'd appreciate any knowledge you can share on these valves with the float position. @ZXT Does the valves on your GT14 look like this one pictured? (ie one long cap, one short cap)? @pacer I recall you have 2 of the large Snapper GT's and that they use this OMCO valve and have the float position. Is that correct? @Hacksawhero123 I'm still trying to learn about and find us both some valves with float! below is my current hydraulic valve setup, 2 OMCO valves stacked together . neither has the float position. I'm not sure if mine looks like that, but I can probably tell you here in a while - I have to run out to the farm to put antifreeze in one of my trucks here in a bit and that's where the GT is. I can tell you that it definitely has a float position, though.
pacer 3,174 #3 Posted October 30, 2019 Oliver, Yep, I do have 2 of the big MF/Snapper GT's and indeed they do have a float position in the mid lift point (3 point does not) and it IS the one with the extended cap.
ZXT 2,401 #4 Posted October 30, 2019 (edited) It appears I have a completely different valve than you - I assumed it had float, but I could certainly be wrong. If you press it down all the way, it will "click" into position and stay there. I assumed that was the float position. My valve doesn't have any caps on it all. Your unit looks more similar to the one on my C-160. I'll have to look at it. Here are a few pics of the GT 14 valve. Edited October 30, 2019 by ZXT

Yes, that is the way the MF is also - slight pressure in the down direction and it will 'click' there and hold. But! I really dont know for sure that it does actually 'float' as the mower deck is difficult to know whether it is or not.... But the manual says it does have a float valve there....
oliver2-44 9,879 #6 Posted October 31, 2019 (edited) Thanks for the info@pacer. I’m going to continue to look for a valve with the longer cap and try this out. @ZXT What year is your GT14. I had been told they thought the early GT14s had OMCO valves and the later ones had a different brand Edited October 31, 2019 by oliver2-
