Burnerman 758 #1 Posted October 23, 2019 I forgot about this one I had stored in the crawl space. I have a David Bradly and another older, bigger better McCulloch in the shed that I need to dig out. 1
ebinmaine 67,277 #2 Posted October 23, 2019 The past I had an old Mini Mac. 10 or 12 inch bar Maybe? Tiny little thing. Ran great but I needed something just a touch bigger. Up until a few months ago I had a 1987 Sachs Dolmar. 60 cc. 20 inch bar. The thing was a genuine monster but it was so heavy I could only handle it for maybe 15 to 30 minutes at a time.

I had a McCulloch rep ask me if I would donate it to their museum 30 some yrs ago. It's a RS sister site which Karl started a while ago. There's a button for it up on the banner here. Lots of guys from across the pond post stuff there. And Karl was kind enough to let me move my Ohlsson & Rice forum on there too. Lots of different 2 stroke powered tools https://myoldmachine.com/forum/74-ohlsson-and-rice/ 1

roadapples 6,983 #9 Posted October 24, 2019 I've had an xl12 for over 40 years. Only chain saw I've ever owned. Bought it from a friend for $75. They had recently changed the color to red but mine is blue and white like Johns. Still runs great although I try not to use it any more than I have to... I'll have to get some pics of his when I go back home... I'm a Dolmar/Makita fan now.
Burnerman 758 #11 Posted October 24, 2019 So I dug out my other 2 saws. The McMulloch is a 3-25 made from 1950-53. The David Bradley I have to look up yet. It has the logo stamped into the bar. It’s so cool how it’s built. I’m going to try and get it running again. The David Bradley is also very cool I wish I stored them better. ☹️ The Aluminum and magnesium cases lost a lot of paint.

bc.gold 3,403 #13 Posted October 27, 2019 (edited) My father used one of these two man McCollock saws if memory serves me the file used to sharpen the chain was a 3/8 round. That chain hogged out some pretty mean chips. The McCollock 99 engine was one of the first to use counter balance gears to keep vibration to a minimum. As a kid used a McCollock Supper 44 to cut firewood. Below the saw pictures one of my metal castings. If any of you collectors may have purchased a saw from a seller in BC ( gustavus1 ) you would have bought a saw from me. Dakota8338 115 #14 Posted October 27, 2019 Back in the late 50's to early 60's dad had a big McCoulloch with a bar he used for cutting down large trees to become firewood, along with sawing the first few larger joints into firewood lengths. When he got into the smaller diameter wood, he would switch to a Homelite Wiz, possibly a Super Wiz with a bow. Dad always preferred a bow to a bar, but for the heavy larger wood he used a bar. I think both are still around the place, but they haven't ran in 30 - 40 years or more. Out of curiosity, I will see if I can locate them, next time I am there. Dad had a fairly new 044 Stihl when he died, which I still have. It is so large and heavy, I use it very sparingly since suffering a heart-attack in '12, but it will still spit out the chips with a sharp chain.

C-85 681 #17 Posted October 28, 2019 We used to sell all kinds of chain saws, we started out selling Remmington and then Poulan (back when they were green) Partner, Pioneer, Daram, and Sachs Dolmar. We serviced anything that came through the door, so we 'saw' most everything for saws. We even sold Wright Saws, which Poulan ended up buying - C-85

I paid $25 for the McCulloch and $30 for the DB back in 85. my dad had Remmingtons. The gas tanks on them would leak because of the 2 piece design. I worked on all sorts of chainsaws also and hated most of them! So small and bad crank seals drove me nuts!
Burnerman 758 #19 Posted October 29, 2019 You know how you start a Poulan? You Poulan it and Poulan it..., old stupid chainsaw joke.

C-85 681 #21 Posted October 29, 2019 We were a long time big Poulan dealer and I'd never heard of the Pullan Pullan joke before that's a good one! I made this up a long time ago for old times sake - I told many people not to buy stihl chain saw, because they weren't made of steel, they're aluminum!
