Different 3900 case

Recommended Posts

Hey guys have been doing 5025 rebuild, short story long, broke orig 3900 pto side case. Bought new complete case went to put bearings in and the orig broken takes 1528 the (new) case takes a.larger size bearing what size. The larger bearing is 1 1/4 the other 1 1/8 does that sound right

Can I just get larger bearing  and mix halves or do I start from scratch will the larger size effect the axle size thank you20191020_123956.jpg.313ebfbe3f0430e556f589224a6095e1.jpg

the H3-2  =  Augest 3 1962  casting date

the L15-1 =  November 15 1961  casting date

They skipped the letter I because it could be mistaken for 1.  3900 is the part number for the right side case half.

3900 is the right part number. The correct axle bearing should be #1528...that = a Torrington or Koyo B-1616.  That means the correct bearing for that case half measures 1 1/4" out side diameter...1" inside diameter...height is 1"  Motion INDUSTRIES catalog # 00090554.

Are you saying that the B-1616 bearing is not the right size for that case half??

They did not make the Heavy Duty transmission until 1963 for the 953...and that part number is #6940 for the right hand case half...1 1/8" axles for the bevel gear differential.  Is it possible that the end of the axle tube is drilled out for a seal??  But then you would need an 1 1/8" seal.  I'm thinking the guy you got the case half from did some shenanigans.  Is he a member here??  :eusa-think:  In fact, I am sure you got stung by somebody who knew what they had and knew it was not going to work for you.  Look at the metal from your old one and what is left from your new one being drilled out.  I think I would be mad enough to pay that guy a visit...that really stinks what happened to you.  Take Tool Crib up on his offer...he is good people. :handgestures-thumbupright:
