spark949 24 #1 Posted October 10, 2019 I sharpened my blades on my 48” deck and while mowing, one of the nuts stripped off the spindle. The nut is striped, Spindle looks like I can maybe save it I hoping a new nut will tighten up....not my luck but worth a try... Does anyone know what thread it is? 3/4 20 or 3/4 16? im probably have to change the spindle, Or can I just change the shaft? thanks Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,033 #3 Posted October 11, 2019 I think the threads are 3/4-10 (Coarse thread) but don't have one I can look at. 10 is the threads per inch. If you can put a rule on the spindle threads you should have 5 threads in 1/2". If you have 8 threads in 1/2" it is 3/4-16 (Fine thread) Garry Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The deck you have is a later model then the C-160 or the spindles have been upgraded, So the C-160 doesn't help locating a spindle. There are two types of of spindle on the later model decks There is the 3/4" keyed it will have a 3/4" nut and lock washer holding the pulley. The second is 17 mm Metric it will have a 5/8" nut and lock washer holding the pulley. The spindle housing and blade are the same on both. but all the other parts are different. Say some because the spindle assemblies could have been upgraded on an older deck that used the blades with double-D holes. Note - 3/4" or .750" is 19.05mm 1977 model 75-48MS02 - Uses 6203 bearings with 3/4" ID - (First deck to use blades with 3/4" center hole) 1978 model 85-48MS01 - Uses 6203 bearings with 3/4" ID 1979 model 95-48MS00 - Uses 6203 bearings with 3/4" ID 1979 model 95-48MS01 - Uses 6203 bearings with 3/4" ID 1980 model 05-48MS01 - Uses 6203 bearings with 3/4" ID 1981-1983 model 05-48MS02 - Uses 6203 bearings with 3/4" ID 1984 model 05-48MS03 - Uses 6203 bearings with 3/4" ID - (Last deck to use bearings with 3/4" center hole) This manual will help identify what you have.
