spark949 24 #1 Posted October 10, 2019 I sharpened my blades on my 48” deck and while mowing, one of the nuts stripped off the spindle. The nut is striped, Spindle looks like I can maybe save it I hoping a new nut will tighten up....not my luck but worth a try... Does anyone know what thread it is? 3/4 20 or 3/4 16? im probably have to change the spindle, Or can I just change the shaft? thanks
oldlineman 1,481 #2 Posted October 10, 2019 You can just change the shaft with the same size.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,033 #3 Posted October 11, 2019 I think the threads are 3/4-10 (Coarse thread) but don't have one I can look at. 10 is the threads per inch. If you can put a rule on the spindle threads you should have 5 threads in 1/2". If you have 8 threads in 1/2" it is 3/4-16 (Fine thread) Garry
peter lena 8,583 #4 Posted October 11, 2019 harbour freight has die nuts for cheap, to re do your thread, also use a 6 point socket to secure those nuts , pete
spark949 24 #5 Posted October 11, 2019 I’ll try the new nut first. My luck be it...I’ll be looking for a spindle shaft. My deck is a 48 off the C-160, anyone know which one I’ll be looking for. Trying to get my ducks in a row. thanks, I always find the answers I need here. Great site!

The deck you have is a later model then the C-160 or the spindles have been upgraded, So the C-160 doesn't help locating a spindle. There are two types of of spindle on the later model decks There is the 3/4" keyed it will have a 3/4" nut and lock washer holding the pulley. The second is 17 mm Metric it will have a 5/8" nut and lock washer holding the pulley. The spindle housing and blade are the same on both. but all the other parts are different. spark949 24 #7 Posted October 13, 2019 (edited) It’s definitely the 3/4 spindle...I got a new nut at tractor supply and it’s holding but I’m going to look for a replacement spindle. Thanks Is the part number Toro 112674? Edited October 13, 2019 by spark949

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,033 #9 Posted October 14, 2019 Here are some of the possible deck numbers. Say some because the spindle assemblies could have been upgraded on an older deck that used the blades with double-D holes. Note - 3/4" or .750" is 19.05mm 1977 model 75-48MS02 - Uses 6203 bearings with 3/4" ID - (First deck to use blades with 3/4" center hole) 1978 model 85-48MS01 - Uses 6203 bearings with 3/4" ID 1979 model 95-48MS00 - Uses 6203 bearings with 3/4" ID 1979 model 95-48MS01 - Uses 6203 bearings with 3/4" ID 1980 model 05-48MS01 - Uses 6203 bearings with 3/4" ID 1981-1983 model 05-48MS02 - Uses 6203 bearings with 3/4" ID 1984 model 05-48MS03 - Uses 6203 bearings with 3/4" ID - (Last deck to use bearings with 3/4" center hole) This manual will help identify what you have. When you click on a model number in the idex it will take you to a page that shows the original assembly first plus the replacements. Garry
