troutbum70 857 #1 Posted October 7, 2019 My question is does any one know what is used inside the plastic cover with craftsman wheel weights? I have a person offering me a pair of craftsman wheel weights at a very good price, but the mounting bolt spacing is only 5 1/2 inches. My wheels the spacing is 6 1/2 inches. I am wondering if I can turn them 180 degrees and drill new holes or if there is a compound in them that will run out when I drill the first hole? Or my other option is to turn the wheels 180 degrees a make new holes if they would clear the hubs. These are 55 lb. weights. Tnx for any and all input. troutbum70 857 #3 Posted October 7, 2019 I have not seen them as they are 75 miles away. But have wondered if they are 55 pounders why the bolt spacing is so short, but he measured them at 5 1/2 inches. He sent me a picture not a close up, but they are for sure craftsman. formariz 11,987 #4 Posted October 8, 2019 They are filled with cement. If water gets inside it will freeze in winter and crack the housing. I do not recommend drilling them. They already are prone to damage since they stick out so much. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I could readily seal the new holes to keep them dry inside. From experience once that plastic is compromised in any way its the beginning of the end. If they are cheap enough I guess otherwise better save money to invest on a set of cast weights. Also found that inevitably one winds up damaging them often in tight places since they protrude so much. I have quite a few of those weights that came to me for free.
