Ed Kennell 38,021 #1 Posted October 6, 2019 NFL....nope. This was the scene from my dining room this afternoon while I watched the Ravens and Steelers. There were actually two eagles feeding on this road killed deer all day. Only one would feed as the other stood sentry about 100 yards away. They showed no aggression to the raven and seemed to feel more comfortable when the raven was feeding. It appeared they welcomed the second pair of eyes to watch for danger. The deer is about 70 yards from my back door. 5 7
The Tuul Crib 7,336 #2 Posted October 7, 2019 Excellent!! And the buzzards?
Ed Kennell 38,021 #3 Posted October 7, 2019 No buzzards yet. I am really surprised at this. Maybe this roadkill isn't aged enough. The eagles were back feeding on it again today and seem to be getting used to me. I was doing some outside work in plain sight and they did watch me, but continued to feed. Ed Kennell 38,021 #4 Posted October 7, 2019 One decided to roost on my neighbors maple tree this evening. 1
Ed Kennell 38,021 #5 Posted October 8, 2019 Another eagle landed in the field about 8AM. It looked smaller (may be a male) than the one that was here Sun. and Mon, and was very cautious. It took over 2 hours for him to approach the deer and finally begin to feed. The first vulture fed this afternoon.
Ed Kennell 38,021 #6 Posted October 9, 2019 She was here feeding early this morning, but at 7:30 a second eagle attacked her several times and after 5-6 dive bombs, drove her off the carcass continuing to attack her in the air. About ten minutes later one returned and began feeding. I was tying to get pics of the attack, but my little cannon was not fast enough in the poor morning light. Here is a pic of one of the attacks. You can see a blurred wing of the attacking eagle along the left edge of the picture in the trees.
Ed Kennell 38,021 #7 Posted October 9, 2019 The entire flock flew in this afternoon. There was a lot of squabbling as 5 different eagles jockeyed for a position at the tale. One female brought her two youngens.
