cafoose 3,355 #1 Posted October 6, 2019 My 876 would not start after I installed the new fuel tank last weekend. I replaced the fuel lines and disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled the fuel pump. I was surprised to see it had a vacuum operated fuel pump Still no start. Took the fuel line off the carburetor and hardly any fuel was pumping out. I got a new electric fuel pump off and installed that and now it runs better than ever! 2

cafoose 3,355 #3 Posted October 6, 2019 I'm thinking of putting an electric fuel pump on my 520HC because of the excessive cranking when it sits a long time. Where is the best place to mount it?

Racinbob 11,278 #5 Posted October 6, 2019 Here's where I mounted mine. Low, out of the way and switched power was already back there. No more excessive cranking.
ronhatch 406 #6 Posted October 6, 2019 (edited) Because I always worried about the 50+ year old diaphragm leaking gas into the crankcase on my 867, I removed the fuel pump and replaced it with a nice home made 1/8" thick aluminum cover. The gas now flows using gravity only. I don't know how low I can let the gas level in the tank get before the engine will stop running yet. As far as ELECTRIC PUMPS go; I installed a Facet on my 4016 high-wheel Case about 2 years ago because I don't use it all the time and I didn't like to crank and crank. I installed it under the tank along with a momentary 'ON' button, BUT I left the original pulse pump in place so both pumps are 'inline'. Now, I just push the button for 20 secs or so and let the electric pump prime the system. I turn the key, it starts right up and runs on the pulse pump without the noise or wearing out of the electric pump. I'm thinking of doing the same thing to my C101. moe1965 749 #7 Posted October 6, 2019 I installed a eletric pump on a c141 . But I wanted to convert it to a pulse pump like on the newer motors. I was told I could make a plate drill a hole in it and put a stab fitting on it and bolt it to where the fuel pump mounts to the engine. It would use the vacuum from the engine to pump the fuel. Anyone ever tried this.
