The Tuul Crib 7,336 #1 Posted October 5, 2019 (edited) I tore down a three speed today and noticed that the outer needle bearings on the case we're toast. What is the best way to press these bearings out without beating them up. Edited October 5, 2019 by The Tool Crib
953 nut 55,062 #2 Posted October 6, 2019 I use a socket and extensions in the hydraulic press to remove and replace the bearings. One inch impact socket works great on 1 1/8" bearings. 4
stevasaurus 22,706 #3 Posted October 6, 2019 The above method works great if you have needle bearings left in the bearing case. I stick the extension in the reverse side of the socket because the back side of the socket is usually sharper and a better fit. The socket can, if it is not a real good fit, slide by and get stuck. A punch with a good square end a ball peen hammer always work when all else fails. You do not need to beat it to death.

I really didnt want to beat on em too much.
stevasaurus 22,706 #5 Posted October 8, 2019 You do not need a press. You can just tap on the extension and socket, or work your way around the bearing case with a punch. You do not have take full swings.
