Tuneup 1,433 #1 Posted October 4, 2019 Hi gang, The PTO on the 76 C-120 I mow the back yard dirt and crabgrass with decided to seize on me - outer bearing. I've worked the engine, trans and brake on this one but really haven't done anything else. She gets dirty while the 125 (Henrietta) rests pampered, at least until a week ago. She's got the deck now. OK, went parts crazy but this 76 has an inner spring that appears to hold the pulley away from the friction surface. It's adjustable but the thrust bearing is no longer available. The 80 doesn't have this system - seems unnecessary and the former owner(s) didn't have that part in there - damaged the adjustment rod surface some. Should I care or just remove the adjustable rod in the crank and make it 80-like? Alternate supplier of a generic bearing?
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,090 #2 Posted October 4, 2019 Change the shaft item 33 the outer bearing mounts on and you can eliminate the internal parts that push the pto bell out away from the friction material. A snap ring goes on each side of the bearing on the 33 shaft 2 x item 34. Now the linkage pulls the pto bell out away from the friction material. #33 is 102872 pto shaft #34 is 2 of 936125 external snap rings Garry
Racinbob 11,188 #3 Posted October 4, 2019 Due to other reasons on my K-341 I stayed with the spring but keep in mind that the spring for the big blocks are different than the small blocks. A substitute thrust washer can be found by searching AXK1226 on Ebay. 12 x 26 x 2mm.
Tuneup 1,433 #4 Posted October 4, 2019 Y'all are giving me a choice - thanks! Yes, they shipped that later outer shaft and it has both grooves so I can shop another snap ring at the local Ace or I can find the bearing and keep it original. Choices... Either way you need both snap rings to move the bell away from the clutch.
Tuneup 1,433 #6 Posted October 4, 2019 Thanks, Lee. It's certainly the easiest way to go and it's been awhile since I had a chat with my Ace man. Happy weekend!
