Mudrig150 301 #1 Posted October 3, 2019 I have seen many a KT, and I noticed a small thing about the KT engines with long head shrouds, such as in cub cadets, wheel horses, and John deeres. Series 1s do not have a block off plate and series 2s do, which is pretty well known. Only problem is when the engine is covered by all the shrouds and you can't see the block-off plate. How do you see if it's a series 1 or 2? Ironically, one way to tell is the exact thing that would be stopping you from telling, the head shroud. I've noticed that on the series 2s, since they designed them so you could put a remote oil filter on, (which is why they have the oil sentry plug and oil filter block off plate) they have 2 caps in the head shroud that pop out so you can put the remote oil filter lines through. First picture is showing what they look like below the shrouds. Second shows the Series 1 without the caps. Third pictures shows a Cub cadet with a series 2, which has the caps.
