The Tuul Crib

Been scratching my head for the past two hours trying to figure out how to get this trans up on my bench by myself. Then it dawned on me grab some two by material and here's what I came up with!

A 12 footer! It was on my bench in less than 30 seconds. Problem solved .

Inclined planes make moving heavy loads from one height to another height easier.

Yeah the more think about it I might have to check into this situation. I have thought about some sort of block and tackle to hang from the ceiling of the shop or some sort of rollaround lift .

Engine hoists are cheap. Especially used. I paid $100 for one 13 years ago and it can lift 2 tons.

I have a Trina.

And a chain falls.

Today I had a friend over to the house and we hung a unistrut from the rafters of the shed. I have a roller for the unistrut that makes it so the chain falls can move back and forth 8 or 9 ft.

Some kind of Handy I tell you.

When I was building my shed back in 2015, my uncle suggested that I use a steel I-beam for a support rather than the typical LVL that I would’ve normally installed.  He told me that if I ever decided to, I could put a “trolley” on the beam and it would be great for lifting and moving heavy stuff across the shop.  It works great!  I currently use a 2.5 ton come a-long on it but eventually I want to put an electric winch on it...

@The Tool Crib great job at thinking outside the box to get the job done.  I’d like to see this thread turn into the standard for thoughts like this.  Here in the Midwest we use the term “farmer logic” it can also be called “common sense” or “horse sense” but it is a way of accomplishing tasks that initially seem impossible by a tenacity to get them done and coming up with an unusual but practical way to make that happen.

If you guys have other things you do like this...please share.  Often we can benefit at some point in the future from your experiences.

I grew on a farm in the mid west

probably not far from you. I picked up

on a few things growing up. You had to be resourceful and when things broke you

fix em and move on!

Its exactly the reason I am on disability today, despite having a bad back since I was a kid, I was always 10 foot tall and bullet proof!! I harp on my kids to not make my mistakes, but my folks told me the same thing!

Work smarter not harder. I would bet the person that first said that was forty plus. Takes me an hour or two to get this old body  lumbered up each morning.
