thanks for your offer to check the knurled bolt. Still, why is the threaded piece spot welded to the hood itself? It the knurled bolt goes in from the front, you would want the threads on the frame part, right? . . . Not on the hood itself, unless the bolt came in from the rear, which I'm sure it doesn't. Or does the lower part of the hood fit inside or behind??

The tab on the hood is supposed to go behind the front frame plate and the bolt goes in from the front.

I have to, unfortunately, question how accurate your 854 restoration is.

There is NO FLIPPIN WAY a new one looked that good! You have an awesome machine there, and the attention to detail is excellent. Truly inspirational work, IMHO.

Thanks Terry, thats the only way that made sense, but not the way it was installed nor did it have any paint marks from being installed that ( correct ) way :thumbs:

Pete... I measured these bolts for you.

The heads of them are 3/4" in diameter and 7/16" tall.

The two short ones for the back of the hood are 1/4" bolts with a thread length of 3/8".

The long one for the front is also a 1/4" bolt with a thread length of 3/4".

These are NOS bolts that are NLA from Toro. You might be able to find a dealer that MIGHT still have some in inventory. That's how I found mine. But I will also warn you, the last price from TORO on these before they went NLA was anywhere from $11-18 EACH!! I was lucky enough to find an old dealer who only charged me a couple bucks each. He said they were old, so he was giving me the old price. You can also get reproductions if you want or need them from Norm's Toys. See the links section for his website.

thanks, one of mine is obviously right. The other has a smaller knurled part. I'm sure I can make these. How many would be needed by people here?

At the Big Wheel Horse Show in PA, there has been someone selling these knobs for the last several years, they had a large box of them, seemed like it was only $1 or $2 each. Anyone remember?

Bill and Sharon are on vacation in the Lake Tahoe area this week. He always takes a week or two after the show to unwind (and search for Wheel horses) We can start bugging him in another week or so............

Hey Duke... BP has been talking to Spec Cast trying to see about getting a model made. As far as the last update... the 854 had been picked as the model to be made, if they were going to be made... I was just trying to find out if it's actually going to happen. As you can imagine... these will probably sell even hotter than the books!! (If they get made!)

Oh, and thanks for the tip there Buzz... we'll have to bring it back up in a week or so! :D

Hey,

I have an 854. I restored it to to near 100% original accuracy about 12 years ago. It came originally with BF Goodrich Silvertown turf treads, but I installed Carlilse Ag treads during the restoration since one of the originals was shot. Will try to hang a picture soon. Meanwhile, sign me up for a replica model too.
