Again many thanks for all the messages of support, certainly appreciated. 

First day in the shop today and I'm moving towards finishing touches.

 

Got the grip paper on the foot boards and fitted the side guards.

Full set of decals on the way so I best paint the hood.

  Looking better all the time, Mick.

 

  Just something to think of doing with regards to the gripper tape. I put a patch either side where your heel can catch. Saves the paint.

To the rear of the tape that's on the foot board or at the side of it on the belt cover/ implement lever cover.

I had never even thought about putting it to the side. BOTH of those locations are a good idea if you know your pattern of we're on the paint.

 

That prompts me to look at the Cinnamon now that it's been in use for a few months.

   I don't think the side panels will get damaged. Though might depend on the size of your feet. The back of the foot board can get hit with your heel as you remove your feet from the pedals.

Yes that looks good Norm, good thinking. I will fit mine out the same. 

Coming close to finishing  now, soon be rolling up the door and driving her out.

The shifter plate are the same for all 8 speed rear gas tank tractors from the 80's to the last ones made. The only difference is most 300 series don't have the notch out for the height adjuster as it was an option.

I had a strip of edging strip left over and put it on the bonnet closure lip, looks neat and the bonnet closes beautifully. 

 

What size panel edging do you use that looks great. I search panel edging and it comes in different sizes

mickwhitt ,nice job on that  !   question on your muffler vertical fitting , were you just experimenting ? or was it like that ? , looks like you could add a exhaust pipe extension and cut down on noise and fumes ? by the way looking at your continuing work and reading the comments back and forth , makes it feel like we are there talking back and forth , good stuff, pete

The muffler is exactly as fitted when I bought her. But the head is tapped with threads for a silencer pipe rather than a flange and gasket as is fitted now. 

I'd like to have a better silencer made and mount it below the chassis perhaps. I will look at clearances.

Bill the edging strip was from ebay, its half inch wide and says it will take from 1mm to 2mm thick metal. It's quite pliable and grips well.

Finished painting the hood, just the decals to fit when its hardened off.

So she starts, she runs, but I cant get her to idle properly. 

Keep using the choke to keep her going, but if I lower the throttle too far she dies out. 

Need to play with carb settings I hope. I have not disturbed the governor so I hope that's ok.

Thanks for all the positive comments. I'm really proud i managed to make something of her. With all your help and advice of course.

From the basic settings I managed to get her to idle quite smoothly. 

Warmed up she seems to run fine.

I will wait for a decent day and wheel her out into the drive for a test run. 

Exhaust is pretty loud, i think it's just a cylinder with a very short baffle tube inside.

I will make some enquiries about getting a new one made.

Well done, Mick. Just don't set the idle too low. Don't forget the bottom end is splash lubricated. About 1200 revs.

Thanks Norm, I will break out the rev counter and check what its tick over speed is.  Same with running speed.

It may be I have some tuning to.do when I get her outdoors and driving.

The idle speed is controlled by the stop screw on the throttle lever I believe?  Does adjusting the mixture screws just get it running smoothly?

  The screw on the side adjusts the idle mixture. The one on the top does the running mixture. Set the idle mixture first. Set running mixture with the throttle wide open. There's instructions in the manuals.

   I can get a nice idle on both the Black Horse and the C-81. The C-125 is not quite as good.

I managed to get her idling at 1200 rpm. A few little pop backs as she tucks over, not sure if I can resolve that. 

Not done the max speed yet as I'm still indoors and I will gas myself lol.

When making those carb adjustments Mick make sure the motor is good and warm. Turn both screws per the manual. Turn the screw in till it starts to sputter then back out to where she sputters and then somewhere in-between. Like Norm said idle screw first.  I go by feel as to where she runs the best.

Me too I love the ear and how shes singing.....but I do love a vac gauge amungst many other tools that can correct the song I hear!
