416-H transmission prob

Recommended Posts

bub

When shifting from forward to reverse I get a hard jerk and shifter not going to neutral when foot brake pressed.  I posted this problem before and have had some  responses.  A???fter reading the manual on the transmission and talking to different people the thought is that a valve in the transmission is sticking or stuck.  My question now i guess is.  Can i drain the transmission oil and replace with some kind of cleaning solution that will hopefully unstick the valve???

No magic juice that I would put in a hydro!

Have you checked the four mounting bolts and the plate where the transmission bolts to the frame?

WHX??

Don't know what to tell you here Bub, of my 3 520's with the Eaton 1100 one jerks but the other two are smooth as silk. Never did figure it out but learned to live with it. Always thought it had to do with sticky linkage or adjustments but never spent alot of time on it just called it up to the nature of the beast. If I didn't have other projects I would go through the whole linkage drive line and see if it helps..IF I didn't have any other projects! :) Food for thought her tho as my go to tractor with the Eaton I did put a Matt's pedal kit on it, rebushed the linkage in the tunnel to eliminate slop and solved all jerky problems. That said I think the only way to cure the problem is go thru the linkage. I would guess that's where the problem lies . How smooth the cam rides on top of the transmission is the key also I think. Pay particular attention to the cam on top the transmission and adjustments and follow the manual directions to the letter. Not going to neutral with brake pedal is a sure sign of adjustment issues. Possible you may have dirt/grass in ther messing up the works. The adjustments of the cam follow on the top end is very key to jerkyness along with slop.

Case I haven't done so :WRS:

Thank you for your reply.  The mounting bolts were really loose.  Tightened them and 416-H is back.  Thanks again

@953 nut thanks Dick for once again bringing us all the KISS method!  Keep It Simple Stupid!  It is amazing how many times I’ve had a symptom with one of my vehicles, and I end up trying all these elaborate but non solving “solutions” before I figure out it was the most simple solution.

glad @bub that this worked out for you to tighten some bolts and get back to work!  Please don’t be a stranger on the site—lots of cool Wheel Horse stuff here!
