D_Mac 8,702 #1 Posted September 23, 2019 (edited) Rebuilding a transmission on a RR-65 calls for bentonite based grease to be packed in gear box. I can find some Peerless brand but it is a little pricey. Is there a cheaper substitute ? Cleaned most of the old grease out but some remains. I am not going to hot tank it. Wondring if any of you guys know of a cheaper replacement. Thanks Edited September 23, 2019 by D_Mac
brinkkl2000 1 #2 Posted September 23, 2019 I have used John Deere corn head grease before when it called for Bentonite. Seemed to work pretty good. That was a few years ago and the trans is still going strong.
squonk 41,334 #3 Posted September 23, 2019 That grease is the nastiest messiest crap I've ever run across. did you have to throw your clothes away after you cleaned up the case?
Stepney 2,325 #4 Posted September 23, 2019 I honestly just pack them up with light axle grease, and tack on a dollup of cornhead. No issues after many years. Smoother shifting too.
