shardisty 10 #1 Posted September 22, 2019 I recently got a 1966 L 156 to restore. My family use to have wheel horses and that’s all my father owned to do yard work. As I was talking to him he said in the early years wheel horse tractors use to be blue and not red. Does anybody know when this occurred or what models were blue? With restoring/customizing it to my liking I’m thinking about painting it blue to bring back that, and do something different. Would anybody know what blue code or color of blue it would be? Like a blue ford? I’ve tried looking it up and can’t finding anything on it.
ebinmaine 67,221 #2 Posted September 22, 2019 To the best of my knowledge there were no factory painted blue Wheelhorses. Some were grey. There were municipalities that had them different colors.
The Tuul Crib 7,336 #3 Posted September 22, 2019 The only blue we would now would be the ford brand .
SylvanLakeWH 25,485 #4 Posted September 22, 2019 No blue that I’m aware of... only red and grey (workhorses)...
WHX?? 48,751 #7 Posted September 23, 2019 Dad must be thinking of another brand. All were either red or grey but there are rare ones out ther that reported to be factory painted an industrial yellow for muncipallities.

Stepney 2,325 #13 Posted September 23, 2019 "I'm feeling a little blue .. which isn't so hot when your red" Blue .. I feel like very early WH's were red with green lettering. But never saw blue. I have seen early RJ's painted in a cat yellow livery for municipalities. Not sure on the historical side of it.. but I know of one original one in that color. Otherwise. I can only refer to New Holland/WH blue of the 1990s. Obviously not what your dad is thinking of. Ford, Springfield, Burns, and Panzer all came in blue .. and from a distance perhaps could be mistaken for a WH.
shardisty 10 #14 Posted September 23, 2019 Thank you all for the comments. I really do appreciate it! He could’ve mistaken it from another brand if no logos or decals were on. Yellow is a different take for sure. I forgot about the greys ones. I haven’t seen one in like twenty years. I’m ready to start fix this little thing up. Mainly for my daughter to drive when she grows a little bit bigger! 6

You might find that wet sanding with either soapy water or WD-40 will cut the rust and bring out the red!

CasualObserver 3,408 #22 Posted September 26, 2019 That just looks like a Wheel Horse pretending to be a Panzer. Hrmmm... maybe that's how Panzer came up with their paint scheme?
