Stepney 2,325 #1 Posted September 17, 2019 Hello, all. Looking at possibly trading a pair of old 42RD decks with a fellow for a 48" SD. Been trying to find a good one for a while, and this one is in really good shape. It's a 1973 model, and I can see from the photos is has the sealed spindles. Would I be correct in assuming this is a Double D pulley and blade type deck? I seem to recall having a bit of a hard time getting DD type blades for my last tractor. Is it possible to use newer 48" deck aluminum spindles on this unit? I've never actually had an older deck working, most of mine are 80s era.

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,033 #3 Posted September 17, 2019 This will help if you know the model number of the deck Garry
Lee1977 6,647 #4 Posted September 18, 2019 (edited) The newer spindles will mount up in the same holes. The deck shell is almost the same it's full depth in the front where the later models have an inch or so trimmed off the front bottom. I have a 75 series 48"deck that new had DD spindles. over the years I had 3/4 keyed , now it had metric. If you have the newer spindles from a 42" deck they will fit but the pulleys are different . They are larger on a 48" deck. Edited September 18, 2019 by Lee1977
