ebinmaine 67,277 #1 Posted September 15, 2019 We got this with the auction stuff back a year ago August. The driven wheel is about 14.5 in diameter. That geared end of things appears to be movable and free. The other end is missing some pieces I believe. Just curious to know what this may have been at some point. @Stepney this is the pump thing I was telling you about the other day.
formariz 11,987 #2 Posted September 15, 2019 Pretty sure it is a water pump. 1
ebinmaine 67,277 #3 Posted September 15, 2019 Sure as anything, that's the beast. The Piston box end on this one is all rusted out and empty of contents. It was basically sitting in the scrap section of this guy's estate sale. I obviously have no way of knowing what he intended to do with it or if he ever tried to fix it. I'm considering trying to incorporate that flywheel and maybe the mounting base into the Colossus build.
Stepney 2,325 #4 Posted September 15, 2019 Shallow well pump! Thats a mid 40s, early 50s or so model. Think the model is 50e. I have a few similar. 1
JoeM 7,871 #5 Posted September 15, 2019 we used pumps like those for dewatering in the mine. The positive displacement was nice for long head runs and they would tolerate going "on air." under that rusty bolt are the valve caps. I can remember going to isolated old workings to make repairs. Always alone, and the other pumps banging in rhythmic style that would set the stage for a top notch horror movie.
