Tractorhead 9,064 #1 Posted September 9, 2019 Hi all, my Stepsohn has a Ford Focus ST 250 HP Engine. Since few months he told me he has trouble with the Car. Ahead he was several times at different Ford Dealers, they should find out what‘s happen. different things are changed but error still occurs. changed was: Fuelfilter Ignitions sparkplugs Today he told me now they give up and will change the Fuelpump without warranty, that problem is solved. Anybody has knowledge about that 2 Litres Turbocharged Engine? Today i get the Car in my handy first times, with the pleasure to solve it. Firstly i readout the Errors and a P0087 and a P0088 pops up. both are Fuel pressure messages, 87 means pressure to low, 88 means pressure to high. both messages occurs short after, while engine spits. Throttleresponse was while this errors occurs weak, later normal. The Testdrive shows firstly spitting Engine, after reset faults it runs normal. Just sometimes the Turbo starts to blow and reduche charging quick to half power. but the engine pulls straight, just with a bit reduced force. After that Testdrive i doubt on the Fuelpump, my favorite for that Problem was the Fuel pressure Sensor or maybe the electronic contacts ( bad contact) (damn electronics in the Cars.... ) I‘m basicly a General Motor‘s guy, and not too familar with Ford. Anybody have some knowledge to confirm my suspicion?
Sparky-(Admin) 21,302 #2 Posted September 9, 2019 It’s never good when the dealer who sells the brand can’t figure it out. I drive a Nissan, Hyundai and a GMC so I can’t help you.
WVHillbilly520H 10,373 #3 Posted September 9, 2019 Fuel pressure regulator is most likely bad...since the pressure is low then high in spikes from the trouble codes.
adsm08 2,022 #4 Posted September 10, 2019 I'm a Ford drivability tech, but I'm not too familiar with the European models, and we didn't get the 2.0T over here until recently. If they are anything like the Ecoboost engines we have over here I would guess the fuel rail pressure sensor is probably faulty, but it is very hard to say without having the car in front of me. Also, knowing the model year would help.

Hi, yes that is an Ecoboost Engine. all things i’ve seen and heared from my Stepsohn, things i had feelin in Testdrivecit shows same issue to me. it felts similar like few drips Water in a carb. Engine, if it spits. I will take a probe from fuel, to see if no Water or diesel is in (fail at filling staition) than i will change fuelfilter again and railpressure Sensor. my favorite was railpressuresensor, cause this symptoms seems to me „sensefully typically“ for it. i just wanna ask, if somebody has maybe different knowledge, just to hear if other issues are possible. Can not believe how incompetent some are, yes not all but he was at 5 stations until now, every one of them give up until they change few parts they less senseful about diagnostic. At least they made oilchange and try to offer him a new battery to solve that troubles... i tested yesterday the Batterie, 98%.... 😎 it seems to me, they hav no more technician with knowledge aside, they just changing parts from expensive to cheap. If the Ford Servicestation speakin the truth, there was also a big blame of Ford Cologne, they support the Ford dealers with such infos but i doubt that this info comes from Ford, they should change only one sparkplug on a 4 cyl, Engine. I doubt, that there is much knowledge, if i hear such nonsense.
