PTO Clutch Cone

What function does the PTO clutch cone serve?  Is it only for forward mounted attachments?

The mower deck is actuated by a similar mechanism as the drive gears, right?

The mower deck came with the tractor, but the no clutch assembly on that side.

What model tractor are we talking about here???  The PTO cone on most drives deck, snow blowers, and even tillers

The PTO cone should be used for the mower deck as well. Depending on what model you have, you may require the front mount mule drive to run the mower deck.

For example on a 1277 there are some mid mount pulleys to twist the belt before it goes to the deck.

On later models like a 312-8 there is a mule drive that mounts in front to twist the belt before it goes to the deck.

Sorry, it's a 701... does not have the original motor, and the shaft is only 3/4"...

the mower deck looks like this one... thought it was toast, but I lubed it up and doesn't seem to be frozen... just needs to be cleaned up.

This isn't a 701 but the deck drive system is similar.  WH used a 3 sheeve pulley but it ran  on a 1" crankshaft.  There was on ebay an adapter you could buy to upsize the 3/4" shaft to one inch.

Edit:  Adapter

So that's not a pto, precisely, though, correct? No clutchplate material... just the idler pulley clutch?

Also, the deck pulley is just a single... looks like you have two?

Sorry for the overly simplistic questions... but what does the lever pinned to the clutch pedal do? Is it supposed to rotate? Looks like it has a spot for a cotter pin or spring, but mine is frozen up.

First pic drive disengaged.  The lever is sitting against a roll pin that goes through the shaft.  Second Pic engaged lever is past the roll pin spring is keeping the belt tight.  This is a newer machine and later decks had two drive belts but engage disengaged worked the same as you rs.
