Changing blades

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a 3/8 inch drive impact  socket to change blades.  Any recommendations.  I bought the new 12 volt DeWalt 3/8 impact.  I found it being smaller is easier to get under the decks when using ramps.

I do not think you will find a 1-1/8" socket with 3/8 drive you will need a 3/8-1/2 adapter

^^^ that and I remove the deck and clean it too. It’s a lot easier to work on off the tractor. I also doubt that 12v Dewalt would have enough power to take off blades. I certainly wouldn’t trust it to tighten them enough.

WHwest8597    Just make sure you do not over tighten the nut. Get most of the way then use a breaker bar for real feel of being tight. I damaged spindle one time but using an impact. Just my:twocents-02cents:.

When I have a thin profile nut and use an impact--especially on a nut that goes on and off a number of times, it pays to pay attention to the leade of the socket. Manufacturers vary, but Pittsburgh are among the worst

If all you have is a cheap socket just use a six point and grind off the end a bit so it grabs the nut fully . I have a blade, oil pan,and a 9/16 with modified ends. They also make special stuff for rounded bolts . They have a perfectly flat end which proves the point.
