mower deck spindle lengths

Recommended Posts

Given that WH made a number of different decks, is there any chance that some of the spindle housing could be shorter than others?  I ask because I was wondering if it would be possible to replace the spindles on a 42" RD with a shorter style and perhaps gain another 1/2" of height for mowing.  I suspect that each deck probably has a different hole pattern and pulley size which could complicate things, so if there's a chart or manual that might have more info, let me know.

Thanks - Cod

Inasmuch as the deck shells 36"-42" -48"  are stamped out by the THOUSANDS ...side and rear disch...the spindle hole patterns are the same for these 3-blade deck shells.  (Those shells using 2-blades are different that the 3-blade styles.)   Accordingly, the spindle-mount bolt pattern is also the same, although the spindles are not.  36" is shorter than the equal-height 42 & 48" spindles. 42 & 48" spindles are interchangeable....the top pulleys are different OD.  42 / and or 48 spindle have either a  3/4" or 5/8"  dia spindle shaft...one keyed, the latter is not.

As for gaining 1/2" cutting height, just swap out to 1" bigger dia guage wheels.   6" is standard, so just put on 7"...
