We wouldn't ever do that, get any one in trouble, unless it's advice on buy more Wheel Horses. 1 1

ebinmaine 67,479 #255 Posted December 22, 2019 Alright alright alright... So the paint department did a little grinding today while I was working on the bandsaw and fabricating a hitch bracket. More about that later. Here's today's progress... A little more sanding in the corners and the frame will be ready for paint.
RJ Hamner 1,007 #256 Posted December 23, 2019 EB Before I figured out that the frames would fit in my blast cabinet I used a side grinder for the big spots and found a middle gun at HF that was on sale for $19. Worked great for the tight spots on the frame and on the rims. Just sayin. Your mileage may vary. Bob
RJ Hamner 1,007 #257 Posted December 23, 2019 That should have read Needle Gun. Though trying to type with the off hand 1
ebinmaine 67,479 #258 Posted December 23, 2019 The frame has a coat of brown metallic on it. The paint department informed me that this paint "doesn't cover". Love the color but I'll try a different one to see if it'll go on better. Same type base so hopefully it won't eat what's there. @RJ HamnerHamner thanks for tip on the needle scaler thingy. Been thinking about one of those for awhile and didn't realize they were that inexpensive. 2
Tractorhead 9,064 #259 Posted December 23, 2019 Is that a rusprevention color? looks real pretty - maybe for a two- color machine... can probably beeing protected by clear color.

It's an interesting color for sure. When you get up close to it it looks patchy and partially opaque. The pictures can't really do it justice. This tractor will probably have six or eight different colors anyways but I would like them all to cover what they are supposed to because the bases have different tones. For example, this dark brown will be covering red, plain factory steel along with welded areas and such. Interesting that you would say something about clear coat. None of our other projects have ever had a clear coat. I asked Trina about it and we may put a coat of clear on the hood after she sprays a two color blend on it.

Not too sure about the metallic paint's adhesion without a primer under it anyway. 1

19richie66 17,500 #263 Posted December 23, 2019 Paint it brown and silver and put gold lettering on it. Call it “ColossUPS”. “What can brown do for you?”

Not too sure about the metallic paint's adhesion without a primer under it anyway. Been 20+ years since I've dealt with metallics. Thanks for that reminder!! I bought 6 cans of red oxide primer to do the lower level of the tractor, at least. Also picked up a few more "possibility colors". I REALLY like the textured paint's huge metallic flake but if it doesn't work it's all good. Today I'll do a little drilling on the adapter. 4 holes each end and I'm thinking 4 drain holes in corners on the bottom.
19richie66 17,500 #266 Posted December 25, 2019 That should do the trick. Very interesting

Settled on 30 so I could use rims I have on hand. 32 - 23 = 9" possible increase in diameter. Divide by 2 determine extra length needed. 4.5 minimum with 32" tires. As it turns out I could have used a 4" addition but that 4 x 6 was tough to find. I figured on a 6 x 6 but our friend found this 7 x 7 piece around her shop. PERFECT.
Pullstart 62,851 #269 Posted December 26, 2019 How are you planning to sort out the body work with the stretch in that area?

The hood stand will be bolted to the frame in the same location but 4 inches higher.... I hope. I say that because I may have to move it backwards just a bit to make up for angle from the raised steering wheel going to the gear. The clutch linkage will remain exactly stock with no changes except maybe a z shape to raise that 4. The brake linkage will be in the hood stand and will be the same. The brake rod that goes from the park brake control to the shoe will need to be lengthened 7 inches. The belt guard will be completely custom built because I have no idea where the forward end is going to be at this point in time. Still not sure what I'm going to do between the fenders and steps. I was just going to create a spacer but I don't know if I'll like that look so that idea may change.
ebinmaine 67,479 #271 Posted December 26, 2019 Well I had the Paint department/BBT/My Honey/Trina do a little more experimental spraying yesterday. @953 nut Richard the red oxide primer did the trick nicely. Here's 3 different colors. "Hole side" the metallic brown I like a lot. "Seam side" metallic oiled bronze "Plain side" another metallic brown The top color is also a textured paint so it leaves a fine sandy feel to the surface. Reaallly cool stuff..... 4
19richie66 17,500 #272 Posted December 26, 2019 I’ve used the oiled bronze on a house project before. I liked that one. Either way it should look good.
Stormin 9,981 #273 Posted December 27, 2019 The first metallic brown gets my vote.
