ebinmaine 67,556 #390 Posted March 14, 2020 Got the frame-to-adapter braces finished up this morning. I bought a neat new tool specifically for this. It's a 90 degree impact driver adapter. The braces I cut had holes in good position for side use. I drilled a pilot hole to start from the inside so as to properly line up the holes. Finished all 4 from the outside of the frame where I had more space and proper leverage. Nice when you have a good sharp drill and get those metal curls. DeWalt gold. DeWalt black works good also. Next is to remove the braces and have the Paint Department toss a coat on. 10

I bought a Lincoln welder last fall. I can't take a class because there just aren't any around. I've been watching a few YouTube channels and experimenting a bit with it. Like most things we do it'll be self taught with guidance from friends and folks on Redsquare. 3 1
Oldskool 6,644 #394 Posted March 14, 2020 I'm no expert welder myself. I'm self taught. Practice practice. Weld together everything you can scrounge up. Cut some welds in half to keep track of penetration. You will get the hang of it quickly 1
troutbum70 857 #395 Posted March 15, 2020 Eb I am just so ever pleased with myself if I get the angle on the bit to just make good chips, I can't imagine getting one to turn out a nice spiral like that. I really struggle with sharpening drill bits.

I thought somebody would get a kick out of that.

I feel old now just realized that was 1998 when I did that.
troutbum70 857 #398 Posted March 15, 2020 I have quite a collection of drill bits because of my inability to resharpen them, another reason I miss my dad as he kept my drill bits, mower blades, chain saw chains sharp.

There are no Community Colleges or Trade Schools n your area that teach welding? I bought my welder about 1965. Never took a course, I've had a few thin metal welds to break. Never had a problem with 1/8" thick and larger. Wish I could still see to weld.
