The "Colossus" project

Recommended Posts

Trina got after the seat and rear fenders this evening.

We had some fun removing the bolts to disassemble the seat and fenders. PO solutions....

She removed the paint from the seat and one fender.

I straightened out the seat pan just a little with a hammer on the vise anvil.

2 coats primer, 2 coats paint. It'll need at least 1 more coat of paint but I like this textured metallic brown ALOT.

One VERY nice advantage to this textured paint is that the seat surface will be slightly more resistant to "butt slide" movement. :handgestures-thumbupright:

She also put a good coat of primer on the frame.

Means that you can hardly slides in curves without sliding out of Seat😂..

btw. Thanks for update with Picts.

But i‘m with you i like those nonglossy texture in surfaces.

I has a bit of differece in the Surface to „normally“ painted.👍

as mentioned before, i still vote for a 2 Color Finish,

think about Clear Paint on Seat🤔. 😇

Clear Paint

I'm thinking that with this project most of the tractor will be a satin or rough surface and the hood will be the first thing we try to paint to a gloss smooth finish.

Likely a clear coat on the hood as well.

I forgot about those funky cool custom rear fenders...  that’ll help simplify the body stretch!

WOW you folks are anxious for this project!

Between you and @Lee1977 I better get back to going!!!

We got @19richie66 working on his.

@pullstart making a monster.

And @Cvans working on getting an incredible engine in a C160.

You'd think you should have enough to watch but noooooooo......

Ok well I'll see if I can The Paint Department to throw a little sparkling brown around today.

I'll be having some shop time dismantling a parts tractor to get at the transmission I want to look at.

Guaranteed no pressure here either. You guys will all have several rebuilds done til I wrap up my first!😀 Hang in there all, still hoping to get back in the mix soon. I’m still going for the record of longest drawn out project ever!

Other than the time it takes for me to build a bathroom!  Last one was 686 days.  I’m going on a year and a half for this one...

looking forward to some of your progress updates!

I got the old 1267/"1287" mongrel taken apart today.

That has/had the 8 speed transmission I wanted to use for Colossus because I know it's fairly tight and shifts well.

I left it draining...

It probably will take a colossal amount of time for a project like Colossus, just thinking out loud :icecream:

Good to see you making progress. When it gets below zero here it's hard for me to think about warming up the shop to play with the horses. Are you working in your basement? Kind of looks like it in the photos. If so your shop will be warm. Nice.

A little of both.

We have a workshop in the basement and also a 16 x 20 outdoor workshop.

During the cold season we do most of our stuff downstairs but chemicals like gas and paint stay out.

Also the wood and metal cutting tools are outside so the mess stays there.

All of the assembly will be done in the nice toasty warm basement.

If your getting a similar weather pattern to me, all work will be indoors today.  Monsoon.  Holy Cow Batman.

Looks like the majority of the rain will go just north of our mountains.

Northern Maine is in store for a rather nasty ice storm.

Muck boots, the ground has thawed and turned to grease.  It's almost as bad as ice.  My shepherd is the only one enjoying this mess, she's 4/4ing.  Mud everywhere.
