If Trina would hide Eric's phone it can be finished by the next Maine Meet and Greet! :banana-wrench:

She's definitely mentioned multiple times she would have had it done by now but it's kind of a "build as you go project" and I don't even know what step follows the first one until I start messing around with it.

I've been getting the itch to get this engine back together and running but it's been too damn cold lately.

@stevasaurus I made it so you could somehow justify your earlier reading of this lengthy excursion into blabberin-osity.

As mentioned in other threads I've been carefully moving parts tools accessories etc about the buildings so as to group things together whenever I find group-able things.

This here 90⁰ gear box has been patiently setting in the kitchen window for a year or three.

I decided to pick and set to a more group friendly place.

These bucket style traps work great! And they're safer than poison or traps if you have pets around.

We've used similar ones with good success.

What's the brand on this one?

Random pic off the interwebz. I got mine at a local farm supply. Nice part is the rodents don't crawl away and die somewhere that you have to track down by scent.

Agreed.

We've used a similar version - without the roller - with good success.

Put about 2 gallons of water in.

Coat that with black oil sunflower seeds.

Set the bucket 🪣 near a woodpile or stone wall and put a board going to the rim.

Obviously we can't do that during the cold season  (6 months) so we use other methods.

I'll be setting out sticky traps and blocks of poison this weekend.

They drown just as easily in RV anti-freeze

You'd think.... but they won't go in the flippin' bucket. Apparently the smell of the RV a/f is off putting.

Tape over all those holes with some aluminum HVAC duct tape. Keep them out.

Good suggestion. I'll pick some up.

Unfortunately I'll have to split the engine again anyway to verify if there's a 🐁 condo down inside the block.

So the 90° gear box that has been sitting on your window sill for a year or three.

This box, do you remember what you were going to do with it?

That's a valid question.

If one was to take a few hours and scroll back through all 78 of these pages there would be a discussion about static and dynamic weights and where I wanted to position the engine.

I really wanted to have the engine facing the same way as most of the Wheelhorses so that the drive pulley would be off of the right hand side.

This engine is just so big and so heavy that there's no way to do it without having the weight center way off to the left hand side even at level flat hard ground. Any sort of a tilt to the left and that effect would get magnified very quickly.

That wouldn't matter to a lot of people but to me. It does. As a trained crane operator, Dynamic loading is something that I understand all too well and I don't want to deal with it on tilted ground with this tractor.

Because of all that I'm going to have the engine facing fore and aft instead of sideways.

This gearbox will be used to transfer the direction of pulley rotation.

Try regular antifreeze.  It smells sweet.  Might work better.

I've notified The Rodent Removal Committee of your comment.

That could happen.

Mouse 🐁  & engine question.

This here hole:

770942210_20250110_1618342.jpg.a54b05ff56c1c5fba0503b8ab2f1fbdb.jpg

Is definitely large enough to allow mouse 🐁  passage.

Would it be worth buying a cheap "camera on a stick" type scope to peer down in there? Or should I just split the engine anyway?

That must be Colossus' heart transplant?

If it was mine I would pull the plugs. Force compressed air into both cylinders at the sametime thru the plug hole. A couple good shots. Then constantly blow while rotating the engine by hand a few complete revolutions. That should clear it out.

I don't actually remember what goes there.

The cylinder heads aren't even on yet.  The valve hole being full of seeds isn't a huge concern because I can vacuum that.

The smaller hole above.....

??

It goes to the crank case. Breather maybe??
