Any idea where I can get C channel or U channel if you like that's light duty stuff? Made out of sheet metal. Something like 1 inch on three sides...

Uni Strut? Or solid channel strut?

1 5/8

Not light duty per say but the channel from a snow plow frame?

You can buy aluminum sheet at the big box stores and make a simple break outta angle steel to bend it

Just throwing $%!t against the wall again to see what sticks

What's the intended purpose?

I'm thinking of making upper and lower belt guard/guides from small channels of sheet steel.

That way the belt drive side of the tractor is "open"  for my own visual appeal.

I've considered aluminum as well .... Maybe not strong enough to be the guide for a clutching belt though?

I've also thought about riveting two "L" pieces to make a "C" but dropped that because I'm concerned the belt would rub on a rivet head.... ((??))

You can definitely find square tube steel in the size you want and cut or grind off one side if you can't find the C/U channel.

Aluminum might not be good for that unless it's thick.

Could old WH frame do the trick? If you had some around? :confusion-shrug:

Maybe you have a Scrapyard arround, you can look there.

I would have an H carrier here, 20cm to each H edge, 1cm thick and about 4 meters in one piece.
I just don't know how to send it to you for free.

i just collecte it, but actually have no need for.😎

It could work but it's pretty heavy.

I would just get some 1-1/2” or 2” square tubing, 1/8” wall and cut off one side as mentioned. Should be more than strong enough.

And you might be able to just cut one in half to get 2 channel pcs outta one cut piece.  Or even a 1" x 2" rectangle tube. Probably have to order that rectangle stuff as they don't typically carry that at every hardware store like the square stuff.

Or, You could get artistic and cut a section off steel pipe too. Like 1/4 to 1/3 of the diameter cut lengthwise so the belt fits inside the pipe.  like a C  :twocents-02cents:

Do you have an Alro supplier near by?  They are a supplier do many types and shapes of steel. Do you have a fabrication shop nearby?  They might have some 'shorts' stashed away that would sell for cheap and fit your needs.  I just stopped by my local fab shop and picked up a 18" long piece of 1/8" wall, 1" square tubing for just under $5.

Good old McMaster-Carr probably lists C channel, though they are pretty proud of it.

Good luck.

I do have a fan shop near that I've used a time or two. Most of his stuff is pretty heavy.

Prices are fair.

I'll be stopping by a Tractor supply later to see what they have around.

Might go the route of slicing one side off a square. I'll see if they have C or U channel first of course.

A local hardware store or HD or autoparts store doesn't have a rack with random steel in it?

Only one hardware store does that I know of and they're super expensive. That's why I'm stopping at TSC.

By the time you "got to it" The Artemis Project will be over and they would have developed a "space age" steel you can use. The "Boys at NASA" have a chart on the wall at Mission Control. " Colossus or Bust!"

Given the current and past pace of production on this project it's legitimately possible we'll be into the second generation on another planet before I'm done.

Just use a 1/8" x 1" x1" angle you are only going to have your leg on one side if it. I don't think your going to be waring a neck tie.
