During last week's snow, I took a flexible flyer down the hill they call "terrifyingly exciting" and set the day's distance travelled record! And without a crash helmet, too! After that, they all wanted to ride with me. Sounds like fun. I haven't been on a sled in decades. I fear I would need that crash helmet you mentioned.

Part of my brain is on this hill from a spill a couple years back, so the kids finally convinced me to put the rest in a bucket. @SylvanLakeWH two lift tickets, $30 total. The day hasn’t sucked! 1 1

ebinmaine 67,455 #1542 Posted February 6, 2022 Got the starter taken apart this evening. Bushings and brushes look excellent so this'll be a simple clean up and reassemble after painting. 4

(probably just the camera angle) Good eye! Not the camera angle. I'd taken the springs out so I could look at the brushes in a flat plane. Ain't any in there! They're fine though. All in good shape and equal size etc.

ebinmaine 67,455 #1548 Posted February 6, 2022 We got the starter cleaned up and painted. It's awaiting reassembly. I took the heads off, wiped out the bores and took a few pics. This engine has been rebuilt .010 and appears to have been used some since. Cross hatching is still evident. The front bore has 2 lines to the eye that can't be felt by my or Trina's touch. 3

I just feel like the fire ring type are probably more durable. I noticed that right away as well. And I agree. Old school knowledge always indicated a compression ring was a good sign of a better quality gasket and the ability to seal more for longer. First hint was on one side 2 head bolts were new. There was a tiny bit of (fog/mist/film?) Around 2 or 3 bolts on each head. THAT was the reason I decided to replace the gaskets. The rear cylinder head gasket came off very easily. Almost as if it was already cracked but I see no evidence of that.
