SylvanLakeWH 26,005 #1 Posted August 31, 2019 Finally found a Black Hood roller locally (10 minutes away)!!! C-85 frame and guts, C-105 hood, and it will be powered with a never started, brand new Lifan 9 HP with electric start (came from my son's high speed winch project, which also donated the frame for my wheel barrow trailer build 2.0 described on another thread)... So, I guess its gonna be a C-85, 95, 105...! (Another custom decal design coming your way eventually @Vinylguy!!!) All Good cuz its Black Hood!!! Came with a couple extra WH rear wheels and chains (can you say dually?) and has the old plastic fender (may or may not use...). All in all - happy for a new project. Will keep you posted as things go along...

SylvanLakeWH 26,005 #6 Posted September 1, 2019 Some quick & dirty mock ups demonstrate the Lifan motor will at least fit under the hood... Originally thinking full paint & restoration... But I Kinda like the beat up tough guy look, so not sure where this build is gonna go... paint, no paint...single or dually, strictly a cruiser or set up to work... Choices choices choices... 4

bds1984 1,444 #9 Posted September 1, 2019 I vote for assembling it as is but paint up the rims black with red pin striping and new tires.
bds1984 1,444 #10 Posted September 1, 2019 I am not really running into blackhoods by me.... it is mostly 312-8s. Maybe I'm the odd one....

If I go with the ratty look I will keep rims as is...if not maybe black... Running through all the “issues” on it now... tires will be a must as they are all toast... 1 hour ago, bds1984 said: I am not really running into blackhoods by me.... it is mostly 312-8s. Maybe I'm the odd one.... They are out there but a lot more of the newer 312’s and 520’s...a lot sadly seem to be in pretty bad shape also... Hope all is well on your side of the Mitten...!!!

SylvanLakeWH 26,005 #18 Posted September 5, 2019 (edited) Got the clutch and brake mechanisms back together from the box of assorted parts...Lots of PB Blaster and moving things around got her sort of back in shape... Changed out the transmission oil tonight... No chunks or chips...but only about 1 Qt. came out (yes front end was up high)... Considering unknown nature of the beast - didn't look that bad... Beginning to form a concept for the build in my mind...uh oh... Edited September 5, 2019 by SylvanLakeWH

SylvanLakeWH 26,005 #22 Posted September 9, 2019 Bit more progress and “thinking” today... Steering Wheel off - yikes... Shaker mount gone. May use for front hitch / winch plate idea... 1/4” steel plate from son’s winch was perfect fit for new mounting plate!!! Score!!! Thinking...rat... Also thinking centrifugal clutch, ala go kart, again courtesy of my son’s winch project (love that kid!)...Anyone ever done it for a cruiser? Pros cons just plain stupid won’t work brilliant??? Input appreciated... Dually decision still in thinking stages...
Pullstart 63,118 #23 Posted September 9, 2019 Jim that clutch will take a funky shaped belt, it’s nearly flat on the inside and beveled on the outside. It fits the clutch opening just dandy, but might not jive with the WH pulleys... 2
SylvanLakeWH 26,005 #24 Posted September 9, 2019 Agree. The belt the clutch came with for my son’s application is 3/4” flat with the “teeth” ? Inside... figured it’s worth a shot if I use slightly wider v belt... may throw my 105 belt on there and see what does... here’s pic of belt that it came with...
8ntruck 7,122 #25 Posted September 9, 2019 Or machine a custom pully for the transmission out of a chunk of steel to match the funky belt shape? Only problem is it would be expensive unless you are well connected with a machinist/machine shop.
