Momma is living with her son. They are getting a lot of rain and some wind. Still waiting for her weather report this morning. Zeek, I'm a believer in boarding up windows, it can't hurt it can only help, it's cheap insurance. Most newer homes windows can handle a cat1,2 and 3 winds but they can't handle an object traveling at those speeds. Once your have a hole in the house and those wind speeds are coming in it's pretty much over. I used 5/8 plywood for years but up graded to hurricane shutters, there are a few different types and most are not that expensive especially if you do it yourself. Now as far as generators go, you will be amazed at how little electricity you really need to be somewhat comfortable after one of these. A few lights (LED) a refrigerator, a 10,000 btu AC in a medium size room that you can close off from the rest of the house and a couple of fans, and your living pretty good. With all of that your still using less than 3500 watts, a 6800 surge/ 5000 running watt gen will use about 16 gallons of gas a day at 3500 watt. We're talking cold showers here, but after a day of cleaning up your yard and doing repairs in 90+ degrees, and 70%+ humidity it and a cold beer is just what you need . I am a bit late to the party guys!!! My island was missed but I was in the middle of rescue efforts as I assisted setting up the Coast Guard Command Center. We had rescue in the air over the islands as soon as the winds dropped below 70, we fueled and hosted the Coasties for several weeks...we also had the Army Chinooks landing on base for overnighting...
