Dave3434 13 #1 Posted August 28, 2019 Hey All, I just inherited a 414-8 from my late father in law. It was his pride and joy, so I have been working on getting it restored. I probably put more into it than is worth, but it’s all good. New starter, tires, battery, fuel lines, and now working on rebuilding the transmission. ebinmaine 67,944 #3 Posted August 28, 2019 I agree with @jabelman for the most part but I will also add that a wheel horse could potentially be a permanent piece of equipment. That just simply can't be said for most of the modern stuff that you buy. I see our heard here as an investment. They are repairable. Maintainable. Plenty strong for the tasks we need them for. troutbum70 857 #9 Posted August 29, 2019 The only thing that should go wrong with that transmission is 4 different seals only because of age. I did have the pin that holds the ball on the shift lever in my 8 speed fall out which is still lying in bottom of transmission had to make a new one. Dave3434 13 #12 Posted August 30, 2019 Thanks everyone.. I am not exactly sure of how it all unfolded, but I had to order a new reduction gear, input shaft, and shift fork. It started off that it would not go into low gear and wouldnt stay in 3rd. After my first mow, the shifter was stuck and I was too. I would say the hardest part was getting the damn woodruff key off of the axle. Fingers crossed that we are as good as new once all completed. 2 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
