Drive pulley not disengaging drive pulley enough to shift

Yes, I have a 702 guard on my 702.  Need some measurements??

Elliot, make sure your drive belt is a 5/8 and not 1/2" or less.  The pulleys are made to be able to release the belt out of the notch.  A narrower belt does not do the slack thing properly.

The 702 should have a 1/2" belt shouldn't it?

Elliot, can you post a couple of pictures of you pulleys and belt set up.  Maybe you have a pulley out of line or maybe a bad bearing in the tension pulley, or the linkage is not right and loose.  Is there a guard on your tension pulley that may be out of line and scraping the belt??

there is your problem...the belt goes under that stud by the input pulley of the trans.  The belt guard bottom would have the belt in-between that stud.  :orcs-cheers:  I have a bolt and a roller on mine...my guard bolts on there.  That is OK but the belt goes under that stud.  That is where you are chewing up belts.

Do not go to 5/8" belts...that was  my mistake.  You want a 1/2" belt that fits.
