19richie66 17,522 #26 Posted September 7, 2019 (edited) Aldon did the thread on widening an 8 speed in his GT-22 thread. I have a 3 speed transmission that came out of a C-81 that has wider than normal axles. I’ll snap a pic and measurement when I get home. Looks easy enough and I've split a few transmissions already so I know what to expect. If you have 14"+ axles to sell I'd be interested....
19richie66 17,522 #28 Posted September 7, 2019 I have a set you can have for the cost of shipping. I’ll dig them out this weekend. How’s that @ebinmaine Eric?

You're a gentleman and a scholar. Richie my friend, that would be absolutely fantastic. I didn't even know there was such a thing as longer axles that would go into an 8 speed without difficulty until this morning. That would give Colossus a great stance and a little added extra safety bonus. Thank you very much. @953 nut my apologies for stealing your thread for a few posts. Thank you. 1

Eric, no apology needed, that was a very valid question and opened up further information we all can make use of. We all gain knowledge by these exchanges of information. The axle I bought from @Shuboxlover is from a "D" and is a bit longer than the stock GT-14 axle. The thread that @19richie66 did on Eaton transaxles provided me with the knowledge of alternative axles. @Aldon and @stevasaurus have also shared enough information to give us all the confidence to dive into a transaxle in the first place.
953 nut 55,773 #33 Posted November 23, 2019 You never know what kind of a hand life will deal you. In my case my hands began to become progressively more numb while this project was going on. Long story short I had Carpal Tunnel Release surgery on both hands in October (two weeks apart) and have been following doctors orders. The right hand continues to have some numbness but It should go away and using them will do no harm I was able to resume work on the GT-14 assembly a few days ago and finished it today (with the exception of some @Vinylguy decals that I have asked Santa for ) The transaxle is working well and while it was apart I repaired the parking brake. The repaint is a twenty footer at best, no need of making this worker a trailer queen. Figured I should take a few pictures before I get it dirty. 3

I’m so glad that you are able to get back on this machine. It sure looks tough and will be a great asset to your yard work and projects. I’m sure it’s uses are only limited to imagination and lift capacity. Nothing wrong with a 20’ footer for a hard working machine. I’m guessing it is one of the coolest “lawn and garden” tractors in your entire neighborhood...
