Bean701 35 #1 Posted August 24, 2019 It’s been about 8 years but I’m back in the fold with a “new” tractor. My first WH was a GT1800 hydro I put way too much money into only to have the 18 horse Briggs die. That was taken out to the grandads farm and then inadvertently junked by a careless in-law. This tractor is a 312-A. I paid $0 for it, a blessing from a co-worker who knew my interest and had no use for it. I hope to salvage the transaxle and pump from the GT to hopefully swap in when this Eaton 700 craps out. 5 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Bean701 35 #8 Posted August 24, 2019 Dealing with failing paint and pitted rust. Here’s to hoping some of the sheet metal on the GT is salvageable as well. Forgot to mention I got a dozer blade in the deal. I am missing the handle which turns the blade. Any suggestions? One of the big horizontal Briggs twins that was difficult to find parts for and was going to be over a thousand bucks to rebuild. I wanted to do a repower using a Carroll Stream diesel, but I didn’t have the $650 needed for the motor, and for some reason I was afraid that a 10 horse motor wouldn’t be enough on a “big” rider. Prices have skyrocketed on those so I wish I had done it. This rig also had some significant rust-thru on the undercarriage, and my biggest issue was it wasn’t red! I honestly just have a Verticalengine Horse, but after my old Onan Engine dies, i exchanged it with an other Engine, because here at my side parts for real Wheelhorses are very rare an if, they be extreme expensive too. @Achto also swapped to an Diesel Engine, a Hatz Brand. So everything was impossible, it‘s up to you. Don‘t forget, Diesel Horsepower can not be directly compared to Gas Horsepower. The rpm is mostly less at the Diesels, but the torque is typically higher at same size. it depends also on your use, if it was enough power for. To have 2 Tractors is recommanded, sombody tell‘s me, but i didn‘t remember who it was. 😎😂 One of them must be a Wheel Horse. 👍 I have my Beast, but my Wheel Horse is allway‘s a useful Helper. because of it‘s smaller size and it‘s less weight it was handier to use. There were no handles or angle adjustment levers... turns out the hour meter meter works on this. Right at 1100 or so hours. Governor issue needs addressed. Running wide open all the time. The difference between the two may be the bearings used inside the transaxle. Kohler made serial 1528061214 in 1985. A 1986 dozer blade. Click on the picture.
