Here is where Hot Wheels changed hands of the keeper, from Richard the builder to me.... well... Rylee for the most part!

After some fun, and hiding in the weeds, I put him to work re-learning how to plow.  A few little issues arose, and after a new fuel line system, a couple carb adjustments and some wiring work and a bath, we’re here to present day I believe.

Today, I checked on the progress of the food plot that Hot Wheels helped so much with.... along with the help of Big Junky and a borrowed Mule.  I am happy to see new plant life, and hope that in a couple months I’ll be using Hot Wheels to haul in the fruit of my labor!  Soon, I’ll likely be mounting the 42” SD deck from the previously Charger 12 currently known as Frank and keeping the deer trails mowed now and again.  Maybe instead of Putt Putt being worked by the front sickle mower project, I’ll see if Hot Wheels wants to play with that mower too!  It sure would help with the PTO issue I’m hung up on in my mind...

It’s pretty nice, neighbors are virtually out of sight... but the special ones are always close enough to help in times of need!  We’re just a few miles out of town, if there’s running around to do.

Hot Wheels and the mid mount grader left on loan to a buddy today.  He also picked up this lawn roller, which after compacting a few yards of dirt he will have no use for.  It’ll come home as “payment” for loaning the tractor.  I told him I’ll need pictures to keep the thread updated and that would be payment enough .  :handgestures-thumbupright:

It’s been a while since I played on this thread, so here’s an update.  Chatting with @PeacemakerJack, he mentioned it would be cool to have a plow hitch that mounts to a plow / tiller axle bracket.  Well, here’s my start.  I don’t believe having the tractor at an angle will change much, but it’s on the hoist anyway.  I drilled out some 3/4” jam nuts and pressed them onto a piece of 3/4” rod.  This’ll be the start of Hot Wheels’ plow hitch.  The nuts will most likely get welded to the rod as a stop as the hitch progresses.

Due to the restrictions of table travel and the vice, I completed half of my rough work and need to move the piece.  I’ll pick up the other end and start machining the other side the same way.

I flipped the piece over, picked up the holes, tapped them and cut a groove for the sleeve to set in for welding.  Now I’ll form the piece and tack it up!

Great thread Kevin!  It is so cool to see Hot Wheels go from the builder @953 nut to another forum member who is so passionate about :wh:‘s.  It will continue to be part of our community and a visible part at that!  I also think it is really cool that it is mostly Rylee’s tractor, if I understand correctly, and therefore it is affecting another whole generation of people!  Can’t wait to see what you come up with for this plow mount.  :handgestures-fingerscrossed::thumbs2:

As with my “dedicated” tractor threads, I enjoy these build and maintain threads for not only the information they provide but also the fabric of life content to them.

Cool tractor.

Cool thread.

Well Josh it wasn’t planned to be Rylee’s, but she sure did take a liking to it!  I am amazed how large it is, but how easy it is to drive for both big and small people.  Who am I kidding, I’m not that big either, but I imagine someone of normal height could still manage just fine!

Bottom line, I do ‘t plan on getting rid of it... so some day it’ll be hers or Jada’s when I’m gone :handgestures-thumbupright:

The basic shape of the hitch is formed.  I’ll have to tack it and work the bends together the way I feel is close enough.  It seems very long, but it’s shorter than the first Brinly style hitch I made.

Looking good so far Kevin.  My “seat of the pants” experimentation has shown me that a little more length in the draft of the plow is a good thing.  When you have hydraulic lift, it doesn’t matter that the longer hitch makes it harder to lift.  It seems to me that the plow does a little better job a little farther behind the tractor.

As a matter of fact, this is the custom length one that I have on my sons CC 100...

3DF0F9C0-D40C-4B40-A998-9A34EDCEA496.jpeg.43a43552fdb2a0b329c2d01264b68fca.jpeg

The standard length hitches for a CC are about 10” from pivot point to draw bar hole.  This one is about 13”.  This tractor does a great job plowing with its only negative being that it has really low ground clearance.

The Wheel Horse Brinly adapter hitches are also about 10” from pivot to draw bar hole.  The “custom” one that I have on GhostRider is about 12”.

You are doing a great job.  Can’t wait to see it finished!

The frame is tacked and I made a few filler passes on the joints.  Hindsight, this is too much of a gap to continue building this way.  I’d be further ahead cutting pieces and fitting them together... but I just had to try it!  I’ll cut and weld the piece of tubing for the hitch pin then start planning a lift lever.

So I’m not exactly on as far as adjustment, but it’s close.  I have the tire 7” off the ground, to plan on more droop than I need for lever travel.  I’ll tack the arm support on, then drop the tractor to the floor and see if it’ll lift it off the ground.

Well, I’ve got the range of motion!  It has slack at 7” high and pulls way above the ground.  The pump is struggling, but there are two other holes.  Maybe I can find more leverage up higher...  maybe I should try changing the fluid in the pump?

This short video shows a couple attempts to lift the plow.  I opened the fill plug and it is full of fluid.  Ideas anyone?

5 big wheels, in various forms or stages.  One with melted wiring, one runner, one in need of an engine, one full project and one in the middle of nap time.  @953 nut thanks again for turning on my big wheel switch!

Got a 953 and 414-8 from Big Red Fred the other day. Got a great deal on both of them. Both run great and I am very pleased with them. Got the 414 for my grandpa and the 953 was just to good of a deal to pass up, so now I got another tractor in my collection

I wanted to show off my 953 i bought last year from the original owners son. I am very proud to own this piece of great american engineering. It was bought local in kendallville indiana the building is still standing where this tractor was sold. I got the greatest deal on it. It came with a snow blade, snow blower and a mower deck. i have since sold the snow blower because it was for a much newer horse. i am an originalist. This tractor i was told has only had an axle seal fixed and his dad many years ago slapped a new coat of paint on it. that is it never been rebuilt or anything else. It is one of my prizes horses.

Boys, having problems with the front wheel alignment on my 1054a.  Seems as tho the tie rod is about 1/2" or so too short causing the front tires to pigeon toe.  Tore everything apart can find nothing wrong or bent.  According to WH parts diagrams, the 953 and 1054 tie rods are the same part number.  Perhaps one of you good fellas could give me the measurements of your tie rods so I can verify mines the correct length?  Maybe something else Im missing here?

      Thanks,
      Mike
