42” RD deck baffles

My old 78 mower deck has baffles under the deck. My 80’s no model number deck has none.

Should I transfer them to the better solid deck shell or does it not matter?

There are a lot of opinions on this. I've had all 4 variants.. Open deck, closed front baffles, and the open front baffles with 'tails' running the length of the deck to try and reduce the grass being thrown to the right side. Fourth being the Recycler model.
Honestly, as a WH buff.. I find the baffle/non baffle all to cut equally poor. All my other brand RD decks worked great, (Manbe it's the counter-rotation blades?) the 42 and 36 in my case have just never pleased me. SD's are different entirely.
The Recycler wasn't too bad though.

Be nice to hear other's opinions. But personally I don't think you will notice much difference. The only real difference I see with baffles is the extra .. and slight at that, vacuum effect it has on the grass. The baffled cuts a little smoother on tall grass .. but still leaves a carpet.

I have a 414-8 with 42 recylcer bought from PO in 2000.  The baffles were gone when I bought it.  I didn't realize they were missing until I joined this site.  The deck cuts fine in my opinion but I am not a purist and since I cut pretty big limbs and some rocks at times I'm not sure the baffles would survive my yard.
