1977walleyeguy 18 #1 Posted August 16, 2019 All, need a little help on two things. I've reviewed the manual 3 times and i cannot for the life of me find what the clearance is suppose to be between the tappet and valve stem for intake and exhaust when at TDC ? second item In the manual it says the valve seats should be 89 deg , but the valves (both intake and exhaust) should be 45 deg? That does not make much sense to me and seems radically different for something that needs to mate firmly to seal. I was reading here http://gardentractorpullingtips.com/valvecam.htm that the valves should be 45 degree and the valve seats should be 46 degree? need some guidance from the experts

You do not want a big contact area Thank you for the tappet clearance settings - apparently that page is missing from the manual i got online here - its suppose to be in section 15-2 but in the pdf its black. The same manual on page 11.3 tells me that if the seats need reconditioned to use 45/15 degree....and yet on section 15.4 says 89 degree. Not gonna lie, a little confusing. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,060 #4 Posted August 16, 2019 Look and angle A and G in the drawing. In the end the difference is 1/2 degree G fits at each end of the A totalling 179 degrees. A straight line is 180 degrees. Garry 2

1977walleyeguy 18 #6 Posted August 17, 2019 Well I have reached a point tonight, just finished removing the valves. Intake isn’t in bad shape but the exhaust guide is worn and I had a heck of a time extracting the exhaust valve. Since I lack the valve seat cutting tools and the knowledge, think I am gonna go full rebuild and have the block professionally ground. and the rabbit hole continues to go deeper..
